Three UAE schools have been selected to share expertise at the World Education Week next month.
GEMS The Kindergarten Starters and Hartland International School in Dubai and Shining Star International School – Abu Dhabi will be among the 100 schools that will gather online from October 5 to 9 to share best practices.
The online conference will discuss education-based themes such as increasing employability and skills; use of technology; deepening family and community engagement and emphasis on wellbeing and promoting the science of learning and teaching, to name a few.
“World Education Week will be a grassroots-led showcase of the very best education establishments, of every size and level, from across the globe,” said Vikas Pota, founder of World Education Week.
“The selected UAE schools are world-leaders in their attitudes to philanthropy and community support, their use of technology and promotion of climate literacy and have achieved awe-inspiring results. The rest of the world’s education systems will be able to learn from the best models,” he added.
Asha Alexander, principal of GEMS The Kindergarten Starters, said the school had to offer validations on several aspects to be selected. “Our school worked in deepening family and community engagement. We have built schools for the underprivileged in Malawi and Palestine as part of Dubai Cares. We have also focused on climate change awareness,” she said.
Meanwhile, Fiona Cottam, principal of Hartland International School, is aiming to share strategies to empower young minds by thinking creatively and working for a larger community. “I think our topic of exploring physical education in a virtual context was of interest. Hence, we were chosen, as it focused on a core curriculum area as well as wellbeing and healthy lifestyles, at a time where this is so crucial for our young people.”
The Abu Dhabi school selected to be part of the Education Week underlined preparing the children of the future.”The reason why we have been chosen is because we’ve worked hard in providing our students with a holistic exposure in creating all kinds of awareness, said Anita Singh, vice-principal of Shining Star International School.
