Each year, Ad Standards offers two $1500 scholarships for post-secondary students. To apply, students must be enrolled in an undergraduate advertising or marketing program at a Canadian university or college. One scholarship is open to students attending a primarily English post-secondary institution and one is open to students attending a primarily French post-secondary institution. Successful applicants display a commitment to volunteerism, a record of academic excellence, and an interest in pursuing a career in advertising or marketing.
The Ad Standards Scholarship honors Robert E. Oliver, our organization’s first president and a pioneer of Canadian advertising self-regulation. He played a key role in developing the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards, sat on various charity boards, and was an accomplished student and public educator.
Our focus on volunteer work recognizes all personal and academic volunteerism; any volunteer work can be included in the application.
Through responsible industry self-regulation, we foster community confidence in Canadian advertising. By administering the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards and offering advertising preclearance, we ensure the integrity and viability of Canadian advertising for all consumers
In 1957, Ad Standards was created by the Canadian advertising industry to support advertisers and consumers. We regularly offer educational industry seminars and presentations to help advertisers produce truthful, fair and accurate advertising.
Upon request, we offer presentations at post-secondary institutions and each year we support advertising and marketing students by awarding the Ad Standards Scholarship.
