Highlands College

The Highlands College located on Mahameghawatte Road, Maharagama was established in 1960. It is a known fact that Highalnds has a unique history serving with honour and esteem in the field of Education in Sri Lanka. Highlands College which has a rich history in the field of education come under the wings of the management of Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda in the year 2005. The school was shifted to Maharagama, to its present location considering the importance of providing education in a student friendly environment. Our aim is to gift students to the society in order to face the challenges of the modern world.

Highlands College caters to the needs of the students with quality education in both Sinhala and English media. We take every measure to fullfil our vision of catering a globally challenging well-disciplined and socially balanced personality with high standards of academic and co-curricular skills.

We strive to empower students acquire, demonstrate, articulate and esteem knowledge and skills for contributing to the modern world with respect, tolerance and being proficient in English Language and Information Technology, exemplary in sports and professional in demeanor.

In realizing for a qualitative and cohesive learning environment through a specialized curriculum harnessed with co-curricular, extra-curricular and professional activities imparted by our highly effective and well experienced staff in an ethically balanced atmosphere with an access to modern technologies and facilities.

Library facilities are made available to all and reading is encouraged, with the allocation of a library period in the Time-table. Our spacious library is fully equipped with the latest books and periodicals. There has been a remarkable improvement in the examination results over the past five years. At the Grade 5 scholarship examination in 2001, a Highlands College student scored the highest marks in Colombo district and during the same year another Highlands student scored marks to reach 14th rank in Colombo district.

A programme to develop computer education among the students is one of the significant moves we took five years ago. It has made a mark in the emerging Information Technology era with new facilities made available to students on a regular basis. The students of Highlands College are fortunate to have a fully equipped, modern IT Laboratory with the latest computers. Students of higher grades can follow the Diploma Courses conducted by our Vocational Training arm: the Academy of Professional Studies (APS).

Students are also provided with a well-equipped Science Laboratory with all modern facilities to promote the quality of Science subject. There are various extra curricular activities are available for students. Art & Craft, Western band, Drama are some of them.
