Make sure your microphone is muted when you aren’t speaking. This will help prevent any background noise from leaking into classes and causing unwanted distractions.
Even though you’re in the comfort of your own home, you still need to look formal and professional. Treat online classes as you would regular classes on a school campus.
If you live with other people (or animals), make sure you’re in a room where no one would walk behind you and cause a distraction. Keep your backgrounds as clear as possible!
Send out Zoom links only to those who will be attending the lesson. You could also set a password and share this with your team only so that you don’t run into the unfortunate incident of having online trolls crash your lessons.
Whatever you think is needed for your class – notebooks, pens, or even water – keep these on hand so that you don’t need to leave your screen.
Make sure your camera is in a stable position (if you’re using an external web camera) and focused at eye level. This will help create a direct sense of engagement with others in your online class.
In your settings, you’ll be able to control whether only you, the host, can share your screen, or whether participants can as well. Turn this to ensure only you can do so in order to prevent unwanted screens from popping up in the middle of lessons.
