4-week Filmmaking Boot Camp

This is a 4-week intensive course designed to give you a solid foundation in the key principles of filmmaking.

You will be introduced to screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography and editing using industry-standard software and film equipment.

You will work on several short film projects and by the end of the course, you will write, direct and produce your own short film.

Once you have achieved your “Hero” status, you can progress onto our BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Filmmaking

On completion of this course our learners will:

• Write, Direct and Produce a short film using proper planning and scheduling along with prep work for the camera, sound and lighting.
• Know how to write an effective story with screenwriting techniques and formats.
• Undertake the activities and responsibilities associated with different roles.
• Assemble a film using industry taught techniques and software for video, sound and colour, and have it be ready for distribution.

Course Content:

Week 1 – Build a foundation

Cinematic history is rich. Discover how the best traditional techniques are still used by today’s professionals. Delve into the art of storytelling. You’ll work with idea generation exercises and storyboards to create your very own script. You’ll work in small groups.

Week 2 – Pre-production

This week, all sessions will be about Pre-Production. Start exploring how to turn your script into a movie. You will be given a number of workshops to learn about lights, sound and camera. You will be learning about assembling the cast and crew, gaining knowledge on acting and directing for the camera. You will learn the importance of scheduling and budgeting. The success of making a film rests in pre-production planning.

Week 3 – The shoot

Turn your knowledge into practice. Start your respective shoots as a team. Every student will have the opportunity to write, direct and produce a short film. Students will be assigned a role/responsibility on other shoots and the practice will be to do it to the best of your skills and knowledge. This is where the film gets really made. Every moment, every shot matters, so planning in Week 2, really helps Week 3 go smoothly.

Week 4 Post-production

Editing is an invisible art form. This week will make you understand how crucial the edit is to storytelling. You will explore art forms of Sound Design, Sound Mixing, and Colour Grading. You will also cover the theory of VFX and Motion. When your film is assembled, it’s ready for distribution. We cover distribution options. Your will be screened in front of an audience.
