Copperfield International School Verbier

Copperfield is a community – a community of ideas, respect and optimism. We are an international school founded in 2021 to fulfil a vision of building a world class school in the Swiss Alps: an international community in a unique and inspiring setting.

Our mission is to teach young people to live with both compassion and courage, developing the moral compass, strength of character and technical skill that they will need, whatever they wish to do.

We start each day, each lesson and each interaction by asking ‘what is best for the student?’, and our decisions flow from that principle.

Copperfield College Verbier is founded along Adlerian principles. Copperfield London supported many young people as they battled with the most unpredictable educational conditions.

It was central to the founding vision of Copperfield that our focus be community itself. This means creating strong and secure links between students, staff, parents and the broader community within which the school lies. This is because we believe that schools find themselves in a unique position, with a responsibility to support children in the challenging journey to becoming adults. A school must serve its community.

It is foundational to Copperfield that students are reminded that to be human is to be imperfect. That it is acceptable to make mistakes. That to succeed means not to achieve, but to do your very best in all ways and at all times.

What we are teaching students is that it matters not whether you fail or succeed, but how you respond afterwards. That problems are natural and to be expected, and what is crucial is the optimism and focus with which you work to solve them. That the world is a good place, and it can be made better through positive and collaboration human thinking and action.

How do we teach?

Groups are small and the teaching is individually tailored: we have three students per teacher.

Our teaching is values-driven, encouraging students to view community as part of their purpose as much as their individual selves.

Our approach is influenced by the work of psychologist Alfred Adler, best known for forming the school of thought of 'individual psychology'.

Educational psychologists work closely with teaching staff to establish strong communication channels between parents, students, and teachers.
