We are proud of our school and what it contributes to our community. We are committed to providing a supportive and challenging centre of learning, promoting high levels of achievement academically and in co-curricular activities.
Staff are constantly professionally developing their capacity in order for students to achieve to their full potential. Our focus is on preparing students for their future by helping to develop responsible, independent, confident, proud, well-balanced and motivated young adults. Orewa College students have achieved highly across academic, sporting, arts and community fields of endeavour. Many have strived for, and attained, regional and national representation honours.
We have a strong values programme, Manaaki Orewa, and learning programme, Ako Orewa, which underpins all that we do and ensures that students are on personalised pathways. We are leaders in the use of digital learning resources and have a strong successful House programme which links all students from year seven to thirteen and provides many leadership opportunities.
As a large Year 7-13 school of approx. 2000 students, we are able to provide a wide range of learning and co-curricular opportunities while retaining a strong sense of community. Our close proximity to the beach and the estuary provides many opportunities to study and play in rich natural environments.
Our learning programme to enable learners to understand their learning progress. Our values programme to promote and recognise three areas, Respecting One Self, Respecting Others and Respecting the Environment, both physical and digital.
Our mission is to provide a supportive and challenging centre of learning for all students in their progress towards enriched and responsible citizenship. Our prime purpose is the education of our students and all decisions affecting the school will be based upon improving the educational outcomes of all students.
Student learning is directly related to the quality of teaching and all staff continue developing their skills to provide the highest quality of teaching. A comprehensive values programme, Manaaki Orewa, and a structured set of learning strategies, Ako Orewa, should form part of the school’s curriculum and culture.
All staff at Orewa College will have an understanding of the School’s vision and programmes, roles and structures that support that vision. There will thus be consistency in what we do in the classroom, the school and the community aimed at the achievement of the vision.
