We are an incredibly warm and inclusive school. Expectations for behaviour, built upon genuine mutual respect between staff and students, are very high and are founded on clear and consistent routines. Our ambitious and purposeful curriculum, grounded in powerful knowledge, is carefully sequenced to ensure all students are appropriately challenged. Explicit teaching ensures all students secure the basics, before moving to more creative and collaborative applications of learning, as delivered by our innovative STEAM programme. Authentic connections with our whenua are developing to ensure learning is grounded in our local environment.
Good manners are seen by our community as being really important, so we model and teach these to our students. Consequently, our culture is positive and respectful - students feel happy, safe and connected.
And we don’t wrap students in cotton wool. Rather, we build resilience via challenging experiences such as our stimulating camp programme and fun house events. Students grow to become well-rounded, talented and creative young adults who thrive at university, and are highly sought after by employers. Academic results continue to climb and are now comparable with the best schools in the country. As well, life-long friendships are developed and nurtured, and pride in the school continues to grow.
We ask our students to dream big, to take risks, to be curious, determined and resilient. Our expectations are that we develop students who can achieve great results and to work alongside parents and whānau to help shape well-balanced, young adults with a strong sense of who they are and where they come from. We challenge all our students to look up, imagine and reach for their stars.
We encourage excellence in all areas of school life and take pride in celebrating our many successes – on the sports field, in the arts and in the unique and exciting ways our students think and express themselves in the 21st century. Most importantly we are proud of our recent strong academic successes. We have seen six years of consecutive improvements in our NCEA results; we are now well above the national averages and are on track to becoming the top academic decile 7 school in the country.
