Academic achievement is a significant priority for us. We are proud of our high NCEA pass rates and that many of our students are gaining Excellence and Merit endorsed Certificates and University Scholarships.

We have capitalized on the size of our school to develop a unique personalised mentoring system which supports each student to pursue their goals with confidence. We have also embedded a unique learning toolkit called Selwise, which is empowering our students to be successful agents of their own learning.

The development of each student’s all-round competencies is also a significant priority. Participation in our rich leadership, sports, performing arts and cultural programmes is expected and we delight in celebrating students who achieve their best. We want our students to love coming to school every day. So we have built a welcoming, vibrant, respectful and purposeful learning community, to which our students feel strongly connected.

Our comprehensive student support services, exceptional commitment to our teachers’ professional learning and our strong home-school partnerships also underpin our students’ wellbeing and success and contribute to Selwyn’s recognition as a leading school.

At Selwyn College our key priority is student achievement. We recognise that students need to develop the knowledge and skills for a lifetime of learning, so they can enjoy rich and worthwhile lives. Hence, it is of central importance to us that we build each student’s capacity to be an effective learner who achieves their personal best academically.

The curriculum for Year 9 students attending Selwyn College is based on the NZ Curriculum. It is designed to promote a broad and balanced education, with an emphasis on the knowledge, skills, values and competencies necessary for academic success in the senior school and beyond. The vision is to develop young people who will be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

Year 9 & 10 students study courses in the eight Learning Areas identified in the NZ Curriculum. See our Course books for more information – Year 9 and Year 10

All of these courses develop in students the five Key Competencies identified in the NZ Curriculum which are needed for a lifetime of learning and success.
