We are part of the English Schools Foundation (ESF), Hong Kong’s largest provider of English-medium international education. We are an all-through special school delivering a curriculum in English. Our school was established in 1986 and named after Mrs. Sarah Roe who was a well-known occupational therapist in Hong Kong. The building was donated by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
We have an enrollment of 70 students with an age range of five to nineteen years. All students have additional learning needs. Many students have a diagnosis of autism and some students have complex needs.
Our mission statement is for Everyone to be Happy, Engaged and Learning. We are committed to providing the best education for our students, and passionate about providing them with meaningful learning experiences which promote their development. We proudly offer a bespoke JCSRS Curriculum that is designed to be broad and balanced to meet the needs of our diverse learners. The curriculum is taught through subjects but has significant elements of project-based learning that support the development of global competencies for deep learning and the generalisation of skills beyond the classroom. Along with teaching and classroom support staff, the school is supported by a multi-agency team. Collaboration between all professionals and our families is an essential aspect of the success of our school.
Our school has a wonderful community feel and students benefit from the inclusion opportunities in other ESF schools. We recognise the individual needs of all our children and through our committed and experienced staff, will work in partnership with parents so that we can develop each child’s potential.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the centre of who we are at ESF.
We are a community of over 18,000 students and staff from more than 70 nationalities and cultures, with a history stretching back over 50 years. We recognise the importance of creating an environment where everyone is treated equally, with dignity and respect, and appreciated for who they are.
This is integral to our vision, mission and values as a leading international school organisation, committed to developing and inspiring every student to be the best that they can be.
Each school within ESF holds a shared vision to create a welcoming learning and working environment, including online, where everyone is valued and supported, so that each and every person in our community can thrive. We believe this is a key driver of our excellence and empowers our students and our staff to reach their fullest potential.
We are aware of our critical role in shaping the future generation of global citizens and are committed to constantly assessing and challenging our own diversity, equity and inclusion practices to ensure we are doing our very best for our students, staff, parents and the wider community.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
I worked here for a week as a student educational assistant as part of a service trip offered by my school- and it was a positively unforgettable experience! JCSRS also has excellent links to the rest of the ESF community in terms of offering new and enriching access experiences for its students, particularly its neighbor, the King George V School, as well as my own West Island. As an outsider, I'm aware that I don't speak for the student body, but JCSRS has one of the most friendly and passionate student communities I've ever gotten the chance to meet and collaborate with. Together with the staff who work here, they create a very supportive, respectful and enriching environment for the entire community that is tailored to everyone's needs. Go JCSRS!
