How Yuvabharathi Prepares Students for Success in a Rapidly Changing Digital World

Edarabia had the opportunity to interview Dr. Jay, Principal of Yuvabharathi International School Singapore, to gain insights into her vision for the school’s future, her approach to education, and her thoughts on the challenges and opportunities facing education today. Dr. Jay shared her plans for the year 2025, emphasising personalized learning, enhanced tech integration, and strengthened community partnerships through increased CSR activities. He also discussed the school’s focus on analyzing student needs, evaluating trends, and increasing innovative practices to foster engagement and growth.

1. What are your plans for 2025?

Plans for 2025: Emphasize personalized learning, enhance tech integration and strengthen community partnerships through increased CSR activities year on year.

2. How do you decide what to focus on academically each year, and which new ideas are you pursuing?

Academic Focus: Analyse student needs, evaluate trends, data, and increase innovative practices to foster engagement and growth to face the growing challenges.

3. What challenges do you anticipate in the field of education over the next 5 years?

Challenges in Education: Adapting to technology shifts, addressing mental health and bridging equity gaps between digital immigrants (teachers) and the digital natives (students). Teach humane qualities in the AI world.

4. How do you keep students interested in learning, especially those who struggle or seem unmotivated?

Keeping Students Engaged: Use interactive methods, real-world connections, and provide consistent encouragement, building peer learning and peer teaching platforms.

5. How does the school ensure all students feel welcome and have the same chances to succeed?

Ensuring Equity: Create inclusive environments, provide tailored support, celebrate diversity among students and nurture each child’s potential, which gives fair chances to all.

6. How proactive is the school in matters of student stress and bullying?

Proactivity on Stress & Bullying: Implement clear policies, offer in-house pastoral counselling by teachers,  arrange professional talks for additional help, and promote positive relationships. Conduct workshops on cyber crime and offer police talks.

7. How do you help students build the skills they need for life after graduation?

Life Skills for Students: Focus on critical thinking, communication, collaboration and emotional intelligence. Learn from and contribute to the learning of others by involving Alumni to have a face-to-face meeting with the juniors for academic rapport.

8. How involved are parents and the community in making the school better?

Parental & Community Involvement: They encourage Parent Support Group (PSG) to foster open communication,  invite participation in CSR activities, and collaborate with the school in CSR activities that add value to the school system.

9. How do you develop a school culture that attracts and keeps great teachers?

Attracting & Retaining Teachers: Provide professional development, offer recognition incentives and promotions, maintain supportive leadership by identifying leaders internally to promote a team building spirit among all.

10. Do teachers at your school have growth opportunities for leadership roles?

Teacher Growth Opportunities: Promote leadership roles through succession plans within the school, mentorship, opportunities for professional advancement, and offer incentives.

11. Which after-school activity would you say has the biggest positive impact on a student’s future?

After-School Activity Impact: Programs that foster critical thinking and problem-solving and conduct club activities to promote sharing and learning in collaboration. Organise student-led seminars to provide opportunities to share their views with fellow students. Provide additional academic and sports coaching.

12. As a Principal, what is your definition of success?

Definition of Success: Empowering students to reach their full potential academically, emotionally,y and socially to become successful global citizens.

13. If you had the opportunity to inspire the world in one sentence, what would that sentence be?

Inspiring the World: “Every child of Yuvabharathi will carry the torch and lead the way in every aspect of life.”
