Westboro Academy has a strong academic focus in a rigorous academic environment. We encourage our students to give their best efforts. We foster a learning context where students are recognized for their progress, work ethic, and dedication. Students are expected to be critical thinkers and problem solvers who can collaborate with others and work towards a common goal. We believe that knowing what to do with knowledge you have gained is more important than gaining knowledge. We teach children to communicate ideas, listen to others, consider points of view and to take a stand. We build a strong community that fosters a culture of learning and celebrates differences. Technology is a valuable learning tool that is available for students to use in age appropriate ways. Westboro Academy is a Mac school. Classrooms and the learning commons have Mac desktop computers for students to share when needed. There are also travelling carts of iPads and MacBook Air laptops for student use. Students may use these devices with teacher supervision only, and for educational purposes only. Every classroom has projection capabilities for sharing and learning through visual means. Each Westboro Academy child has an account that is monitored and managed by the school and this account hosts important features like Google Classroom as a communication feature between home and school. Starting in grade 5, students learn how to use shared documents and submit their work online on occasion.

We know that familiarity and ease with technology will be essential as students grow older. We also give strong emphasis to the value of writing, sharing, researching, and learning through a wide variety of other means.

Our class sizes are small, and there is only one class per grade. With an average of 15 students per class, our students have more opportunities and are given more attention. Our students love learning and are challenged academically. At Westboro Academy, it is “cool” to be smart.

Our teachers are incredibly dedicated and passionate, and our positive school climate makes them want to stay. We are happy to say that our teaching staff has an average tenure of eleven years. Founded in 1993, Westboro Academy has grown to become the region’s premiere school for excellence in bilingual education. Westboro Academy was founded by a small group of parents looking for excellence in bilingual education. By 1998, the school had undergone 2 moves to allow for rapid expansion and finally landed on Brewer Way, near Carleton University, where it stayed until 2019. The current school at 1000 Brookfield Road East was formerly École Gabrielle Roy and we are very pleased to know that we will be here until at least 2039.

The rigorous academic program is built on a truly bilingual model for learning. Achieving personal excellence with a strong work ethic, and reaching your best in a supportive environment are keys to success. Teaching and learning is at the heart of the school. By using the Ontario English curriculum, and the French first language curriculum from Québec, we ensure a truly bilingual learning environment.

Our students are privileged to learn from dedicated and trained specialist teachers in Music, Art, Science, and Health and Physical Education. Weekly lessons in each of these disciplines ensures a broad and varied academic environment. Each student deserves to achieve their very best. We have a French teacher and an English teacher dedicated specifically to helping every child reach their full potential whether it be through additional challenges or extra support.

Being a part of Westboro Academy includes leadership development, special programs and activities, character defining experiences and service learning opportunities. Life at school extends far beyond the classroom. Westboro Academy students have many opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities, develop leadership skills, and become engaged in a wide variety of experiences.

There are abundant opportunities to develop leadership skills in both formal in informal roles throughout the school and community. We recognize and value the importance of fostering these skills for all children. Students at Westboro Academy wear a uniform every day. Depending on the schedule a student will dress for regular classes, Physical Education, or formal events. The uniforms are practical and classy, and made to last.
