The Adelaide Summer Research Scholarships have been created to encourage undergraduate students to consider undertaking postgraduate study at the University of Adelaide leading to a career involving research. The scholars will work with a research team to stimulate their enthusiasm for advanced study.
Up to 60 Summer Research Scholarships are available to continuing undergraduate students who wish to undertake a six week research project at the University of Adelaide over the 2020-21 summer vacation.
Students who are in receipt of, or expect to receive any other summer or vacation scholarships over the 2020-21 summer vacation (e.g. National Heart Foundation Summer Scholarship, Cancer Council Vacation scholarships) are not eligible for the Adelaide Summer Research Scholarship unless the other scholarship is for a separate research project.
Each Scholarship provides a living allowance of at least $200 per week for six weeks.
The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered; acceptance of the Scholarship offer cannot be deferred. If a student declines the Scholarship offer, the Scholarship will be offered to the next eligible student.
Students can only submit ONE application online. If a student wishes to apply for more than one research project, a separate Research Project and Supervisor Form for each project must be attached (multiple forms can be attached). All attached forms must be completed and signed as required.
If a student has submitted an application online and wishes to apply for an additional research project, please contact the Coursework Scholarships Office via email [email protected]
Students who are not studying at the University of Adelaide can apply for the Adelaide Summer Research Scholarship but must contact the Coursework Scholarships Office via email [email protected] after applications open on Monday 27 July 2020.
Faculties will advise students the outcome of their application/s by mid-late November 2020.
Please note only completed applications will be considered. Please ensure the supervisor has signed the Research Project and Supervisor form before attaching to your application.
By every measure, the University of Adelaide—a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight research-intensive universities—stands tall among the world’s leading institutions of learning and innovation. The clearest indication of this is our consistently high rating by the most respected international assessment bodies: QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education and Shanghai Jiao Tong’s Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU). All consider us one of the top 1% of universities worldwide, and the top university in our state.
We’re equally proud of the fact that the vast majority of our research is rated ‘above or well above world standard’ by the Australian Research Council’s Excellence in Research Australia program. We count among our distinguished alumni: five Nobel Laureates; over 100 Rhodes Scholars, including Australia’s first Indigenous recipient; and Australia’s first female prime minister and Supreme Court judge. Many of our staff and teachers are internationally recognised leaders in their fields. And we attract a diverse student body of over 27,000 from more than 90 countries.
The University is an international institution that distinctively embraces the ideal of the research university, where the excitement, vitality and passion of the search for new knowledge is one in which all students participate; as an enlightened and tolerant community where able students can find support, whatever their background or circumstances; and as a place where the Kaurna people, original custodians of the land on which the campuses now rest, are acknowledged and their culture respected. The University of Adelaide draws strength from its founding values as it fulfils its future research and teaching aspirations.
The University has three primary areas of focus. We are committed to achieving excellence in education, research and engagement with the community. Working closely with world-class academics, students acquire the skills, knowledge and experience to make a significant contribution in their careers. Operating at the cutting edge of their disciplines, our academics enthusiastically share their passion for new knowledge and encourage students’ own pursuits of world-changing discoveries. Equally important, students have ready access to staff throughout their time here, thanks to our low staff-to-student ratios. A commitment to incredibly high standards of teaching ensure students are given every opportunity to excel and fulfil their potential.
