This strong partnership between parents and the school is so important in enabling children to achieve success and so we ask for your full support of school policies and for your continued proactive involvement in your child’s education. In addition to smart uniform it is essential that students are fully prepared for their studies each day by checking their planners each evening to ensure they have all the necessary books, equipment and homework for the following day.

At Afon Tâf High School, we strive to provide an environment where each and every learner has the opportunity to learn and develop as an individual. The key to good learning is good behaviour which is managed pro-actively. Our behaviour for learning policy is based upon developing respect and positive attitudes to learning within our pupils which will prepare them for future life and work. This policy seeks to ensure that teachers can teach in a respectful learning environment and that learners can learn without distraction in a nurturing atmosphere.

Positive relationships between learners and staff are considered key to ensuring that everyone in our community is able to work to their full potential and enjoy being here. The key to the successful implementation of this policy is its day-to-day usage by staff. All staff must use this policy consistently to ensure that our learners are receiving the same messages, experiences and treatment in every classroom around the school. All staff must take responsibility for the praise, reward, discipline, control and order of learners both within and around the school.

The curriculum is planned in a coherent manner ensuring it meets all statutory requirements, including those of the National Curriculum and The Skills Measure. It embraces cross-curricular themes such as Curriculum Cymreig and EDSGC. We also seek to develop the cross curricula skills of Communication, Number, ICT and Thinking in line with the Non Statutory Skills Framework and the Literacy & Numeracy Framework. The development of students’ personal and social skills and their spiritual and cultural development are addressed specifically through the PSHE programme and school assemblies, as well as permeating the whole curriculum, both formal and hidden.
