Email Admissions

You must be academically strong and have a desire to contribute to society.

Excellent grades are a prerequisite in order to be admitted to the best universities. However, there are other important criteria both when applying for admission at the universities and when we consider who to award the scholarships to.

Do you aim high and work persistently to reach your goals? Are you engaged in social issues? Would you like to make a positive impact to the benefit of others?

We are looking for young talent dedicated to making a difference. We hope that the opportunity to study at one of the world's top universities will provide you with knowledge, inspiration and contacts that can help you realize your full potential — both academically and personally.

At this stage, we do not know what life has in store for you after your study abroad. Maybe you will become an important contributor to academia, the private sector or society? Maybe you will contribute to improving the lives of those who are not doing as well as you are?

Do you identify with the descriptions above? There are no requirements in terms of where you must work after you complete your degree. We hope, though, that in the long term you will prove us right in our decision to award you an Aker Scholarship.

Application Process
The application deadline is 26th of September 2020. To keep up to date with Aker Scholarship we encourage you to like our page on Facebook. Read more about the scholarship on www.akerscholarship.no.

To apply you will first have to register a user by signing up for an account. Please register with an email account that is yours long term (some institutional accounts at universities are limited to the years you study there). Once you have registered you may sign in and fill in your application. You do not have to complete the application all at once — just save what you have done and you may return to it at a later point in time before the deadline to complete the rest.

Before accessing the application you will be asked to answer three simple questions to check that you are eligible for the scholarship. This is to avoid that you waste time and effort if you are not in our target group.

The application to Aker Scholarship is submitted online. The application consists of:

  • A form where you, among other things, list what you have studied and what you wish to study with an Aker Scholarship.
  • If you apply for a Master, you must upload an application letter of typically 1,5-2 pages where you describe yourself, what you wish to study and why, in addition to reasons you should be awarded a scholarship. If you want support for a PhD, you must also attach a project description, typically 4-10 pages long. (We understand that such a PhD project description can and will change in dialogue with the academic community at the universities once you embark on your degree, but we want you to tell us a little bit of what you want to do in your research.)
  • CV.
  • All transcripts from Upper Secondary School (videregående skole) and until today.
  • Two letters of recommendation. At least one should be from someone who knows you in an academic capacity or can say something about your academic backgroud and potential. For PhD applicants we recommend two academic references. MBA are not required to have academic recommendations, work references are fine. It is not required that letters are adressed to Aker Scholarship. Either you or your recommender may upload them (you will not be able to read the letters uploaded by the recommendrs).
  • Contact information to at least two references that we may reach out to after a potential interview to ask more detailed questions about you (these people may be the same as those who wrote your letters of recommendation or they may be other people if you).
  • Other relevant documents.

We request that you write your application letter in English. All other documents can be in either English or Norwegian.

Once you have submitted your application you should receive a confirmation email stating that we have received your application. If you do not receive any such email, please contact us via the information provided below.

If you have any issues feel free to contact us either via email or call 467 44 444 (during working hours).

About Company

Since 1841, Aker has played an instrumental role in the development of knowledge-based industry in Norway. Close collaboration between owners, management, unions and academic institutions has been a red thread throughout the company’s history.

For 175 years Aker has created products, technology and services in a high-cost country. This would not have been possible without Norway´s natural resources, an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, hard work and a highly-skilled workforce. Investment in knowledge is key to shape tomorrow's society.

Aker Scholarship grants are financed by Anne Grete Eidsvig and Kjell Inge Røkke´s Foundation for Education.

The purpose of the Aker Scholarship is to offer highly-qualified candidates, with a strong link to Norway, an opportunity to pursue an advanced degree at one of the world´s leading universities, and to support the development of the scholar’s social commitment.

Aker ASA contributes to the administration of the Aker Scholarship scheme.
