Al-Hijrah has a long and proud history of providing excellent education in an Islamic context. We are always keen to change and develop to ensure we meet the needs of our children. We recognize that our children will grow up in a fast paced dynamic world and need to ensure they have the tools to succeed. It is our endeavour to create and develop an environment that is welcoming, an environment that is positive and celebrates the very best of Islamic and British heritage.
Al-Hijrah school is a response to the supplication “Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the hereafter …”. We have the highest expectations of our students both academically and in the development of a strong Islamic character in accordance with the saying of our prophet (PBUH): “I have been sent to perfect character”. It is our aspiration that our students go on to lead happy and fulfilled lives, where they become a source of strength for their families and become active members of the society at large.
Learning has always been championed by Islam, as is evident in history and it is our mission to enable our children to become dedicated Muslims, responsible citizens and effective contributors through securing high standards. Al-Hijrah school is one of the most oversubscribed schools in the city. We have extremely dedicated and innovative staff. It is our ambition to make the school a centre of excellence and to continuously expand to serve as wide a community as possible.
`Tarbiyah` is an Arabic word that means development, increase, growth, and loftiness. In Islam it means the development and the training of people in various aspects. At Al-Hijrah Tarbiyah refers to the systematic development and training of our pupils in the light of Islamic teachings. It is a continuous and comprehensive process of developing all aspects of our pupils’ character and personality, i.e. spiritual, intellectual, moral, social and physical aspects.
The real aim of Tarbiyah is to develop Taqwa and to put all members of Al-Hijrah school on the path of constant self purification, self-correction and self-development and instill in them the passion for truth, righteousness, justice and respect for others. The focus of Tarbiyah is to train pupils who are distinguished, strive for excellence, are self-motivated, conduct a balance life, live in peace with themselves and their environment, be equipped with the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills to make difference in the society by taking an active role in the reform process that seeks to make the betterment of our community, our country and the entire world. The full impact of Tarbiyah is truly realised when parents, pupils, staff and other stakeholders all work cohesively together.
Al-Hijrah is a full time Voluntary Aided Islamic Through School for boys and girls between the ages of 4 to 16 who wish to learn the British National Curriculum in an Islamic environment where they can develop their Islamic personality alongside their academic performance. Al-Hijrah school is not based on any one juristic school of thought at all. It is open to all Muslims regardless of their sect, race, gender, language, nationality and ability. Pupils may be proud of their own school of thought but must respect and tolerate other schools of thought.
It is the aim of Al-Hijrah School to develop God-consciousness (Taqwa) in ourselves through which we, as professional teachers and staff can educate all the pupils entrusted to us in the best possible manner. By continually developing our knowledge, understanding and skills we help pupils to achieve excellence in their educational opportunities and experiences. As teachers we should, in addition to our contractual obligations, help Muslim pupils to retai and enhance their Islamic faith and moral values. Through a development of mutual understanding and respect between our non-Muslim colleagues and us, we should dispel some of the negative perceptions of Islam and create a better teaching environment to the benefit of all.
