The school is adjacent to the green and leafy Alexandra Palace and it has excellent transport links that allows us to experience the many museums, galleries and fantastic locations our capital city has to offer. We aim to create an inspirational community of learning rooted in living values, providing outstanding educational opportunities and experiences for all our children regardless of age, ethnicity, ability and background. Our mission is to ensure that every child leaves Alexandra Primary with confidence, a love of learning and a self-belief which will stay with them always. Our Foundation Stage provides a secure, happy and caring environment in which children learn through purposeful and carefully planned play.

The early years of a child’s life are an important stage where the foundations for future development are established. In the Foundation Stage, we foster the child’s own interests, needs and stages of development and offer activities which extend, enrich and develop potential both inside and outside the classroom. Purposefully planned, playful activities and first hand experiences are the key to learning, laying the foundations for the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. There will be a mixture and an appropriate balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities, depending on the children’s age and stage of development.

The curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression and continuity of skills in seven areas of learning. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. The three prime areas reflect the key skills and capacities all children need to develop and learn effectively in order to be ready for school.

We are committed to ensuring that our pupils respect and follow the modern British values of individual liberty, democracy, mutual respect, the rule of law and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.

Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and an empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it is through choice of challenge, of how they record, of participation in extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices. Accepting that other people have their own faiths / beliefs / opinions, and that this is tolerated and not be the cause of discriminatory behaviour.

This is achieved through enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity. Assemblies and discussions involving prejudices and prejudice-based bullying have been followed and supported by learning in RE and PSHE. Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school.
