At Alston Primary School every child is as important as the next. In short, every child matters. Everyone at Alston is committed to providing a caring and friendly school, a happy place to learn because happy children make engaged learners. We use every opportunity to provide motivating activities which will stretch your child’s imagination and allow them to learn through first hand experiences.

Alston Primary School is an inclusive community and we promote tolerance and respect for all. We value the individual contributions our pupils bring to school and we encourage and support them to fulfil their potential. We are committed to working closely with parents and carers to ensure that the home school partnership benefits the children.

We want all children to achieve the highest possible standards and make maximum progress in relation to their prior learning. We want children to enjoy acquiring and using knowledge and skills to question and explore, to acquire positive attitudes, to gain independence, to become lifelong learners.

Our vision is to develop a school community where children can enjoy a welcoming, secure, happy and healthy environment, where all members can develop self-confidence, self-esteem, self-motivation, independence, compassion, tolerance and understanding of others.

A child with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education Health Care Plan is required to be admitted to Alston Primary School if that is the named school in their Statement or Education Health Care Plan. This does give a child overall priority for admission to Alston Primary School.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school. We are determined that every child has every possible opportunity to succeed. We ensure that children with SEN or disabilities are not treated less favourably than other pupils. An inclusion team strive to give the pupils as much support to ensure they can achieve progress. For different reasons some pupils need extra support to help them achieve their potential.
