Amazing k Autism School

Amazing K is a private day school and therapy centre for children from age 2 years. Our learners receive the best of both the schooling and therapy world. We offer Individualized Education Programs, ABA, Speech- and Augmentive Alternative Communication (AAC) therapy as well as a full and adapted Academic Curriculum. Read more about us.

We are a school that believes in whole child education and this principle guides teaching and learning in every class. We understand that a child that is unable to speak or one that struggles to communicate still has the ability and right to learn.

Amazing k has the healthy development of the individual child as its central impulse. Our curriculum aims to support and enhance the healthiest possible development for each student whilst giving equal importance to nurturing the physical, emotional and intellectual aspects of the child.

Amazing K’s character is not confined to any single aspect of the school’s activity but rather expressed in its curriculum content and teaching methods, organizational structures, as well as details of the social and physical environment of the school. It is essentially an integrated approach. All subjects and activities are seen to have equal importance within the curriculum, and all contribute to a complete and balanced education.

Our Curriculum is Communication focused and Autism specific. It focuses on developing key skills and includes: Speech, Communication, Independence, Physical development, Social development, Emotional development and Cognitive development.

At Amazing K we know that each of our students gets the very best start in life because every aspect of their care and education is tailor made to the individual child. Continues assessment, evaluations and tests are conducted and recorded to ensure the child gets the best intervention. The way we assess your child ensures that we are giving them the very best possible opportunity to thrive and progress.

At Amazing k we use a combination of teaching methods. We employ Educators and Therapists from different backgrounds each appropriate to support the child’s learning needs in each individual Education phase.

Our learners are supported to develop their readiness to learn. Their age appropriate challenges are addressed, assessed and reported on.

Amazing K offers a best of both the schooling and behaviour therapy intervention option.  We work on a rolling plan, working on themes appropriate to each Education Phase.  Learning is promoted through small, low child to teacher ratios and well organized classrooms.

All classrooms, the playground and resources are designed specifically to support the full spectrum of the child’s development.  Each educational phase has age appropriate – specific resources to support the different needs within the class.  Everything we do is through personalized learning and it is all aimed at the individual child and their needs.

We offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions to all children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The child does not need to be enrolled into the Autism School. ABA therapy is an elective therapy and does not form part of the School Curriculum. In other words you can enroll your child into just ABA therapy and not the school.

• We offer 30 minute one-on-one sessions. Session can be done either 3 or 5 times per week;
• 1 hour sessions as also offered and again sessions can be done either 3 or 5 times per week;
• For intensive ABA intervention we recommend a 2 hour one-on-one session. This should be done a minimum of 3 times per week.
• In addition to gaining the benefit of one-on-one intervention sessions. The result of a 2 hours 5 x a week session can be incredible. Because the child will then work one-on-one in a group setting as well.
• The ABA therapy center also runs on the ISASA 4 term calendar.
