The American School of Recife’s Mission Statement stresses our commitment to molding “lifelong learners with an international perspective”, reaching their potential, creating “critical thinkers” who will be fully equipped to be “responsible world citizens”.

Not only does EAR aim for academic excellence (as seen in formative and summative assessment successes, MAP scores, AP scores, and university acceptances), we also aim to educate the ‘whole child. The 21st century is very different from the 20th century, and changes are occurring at a much faster rate than ever before. It is our vision to prepare EAR graduates to be ready for these changes.

Our new buildings and construction plans continue to ensure that EAR enjoys the best facilities possible. Also, we hire and nurture outstanding teachers from around the world. Our students and faculty represent over 20 nations and blend their unique beliefs and personalities to make EAR a multinational educational environment. The average enrollment is 600 students, from Nursery to the 12th grade, aged 2 to 18 years old. Approximately 15% of the students are US citizens.

The two semesters comprising the school year extend from August to December and from January to June.

The school is accredited by Cognia (Formerly AdvancED-SACS) in the United States, by the Ministry of Education of Brazil (MEC), the Pernambuco Secretary of Education, and Recife Secretary of Education.

The school is a member of the American International in the Americas AMISA (Formerly AASSA), the Association of American Schools in Brazil (AASB), and the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE).

Class hours are 7:50 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and extracurricular activities start at 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The school has no religious or political affiliation.

The primary goal of our educational program is the development of the academic skills and intellectual abilities that will successfully empower students to pursue higher education and a professional career path suited to their talents and interests.
