Andalas University

UNAND is the oldest university outside of Java Island, and the fourth oldest university in Indonesia. This university was established in 1956 following the Decree of Minister of Education and Culture No. 80016/Kab; 23 December 1955.

UNAND was officially launched at 13 September 1956 by four of its founding fathers together with the Dr. stMohammad Hatta, Indonesia's 1Vice President, and the Minister of Education and Culture Bapak Sarino Mangoenpranoto.

In its early years, UNAND had five faculties that were spread at different municipalities. Faculty of Agriculture in Payakumbuh, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Natural Science in Bukittinggi, Faculty of Law in Padang, and Faculty of Teaching and Education in Batusangkar.

Then Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Animal Husbandry were established in the year 1961 and 1963, consecutively. Other faculties, i.e. Humanities, Engineering, Social and Politics, Pharmacy, Agricultural Technology, and Public Health have been established afterwards.

In 1965, Faculty of Teaching and Education split from UNAND and has become Institute of Teaching and Education of Padang (IKIP) Padang.UNAND is now having 15 faculties and Postgraduate Program and is home for almost 25000 students. To date, UNAND has three campuses, i.e Campuss I in Padang covers the area of 500 ha (main campuss); campuss II in Payakumbuh for Animal Science and Economics; and campuss III in Dharmasraya for Agroecotechnology.

• To conduct transfer of science and technologies for the benefit of people in the context of sustainable development.
• To develop productive and sustainable cooperation with education and government institutions as well as private en-terprises at local, national and international levels.
• To strengthen the institution through the application of good university governance in order to be able to anticipate changes in strategic environments

Andalas University is very concerned with the formation of student characters. Year 2015 is a new era in the formation of student character, that is with Character Training Andalasian (KA). The train was developed by Unand's own lecturers. It is expected that this training will be the initial capital for Unand students to have good character.

Located in the hills of Limau Manis, Pauh District, approximately 15 Km from Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. Andalas University Campus covers an area of ​​500 hectares. This area is referred to as Bukik Karamuntiang / Hill of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa , and lies at an altitude of ± 255 m above sea level. The campus overlooks the city of Padang with a view of the blue Indian Ocean stretching to the west. In the East lined the ridge. While on the north and south there are valleys, each of which is fed by a tributary. Natural conditions are beautiful and green, of course provide a comfortable atmosphere and beautiful natural panorama. Of course the Unand Limau Manus Campus is very conducive to studying and researching to explore and develop science and technology for the glory of the nation.
