Archbishop Tenison’s has a great history, one that goes right back to 1685. We are a small school and this means that we can offer the very best in pastoral and academic support. We try to ensure that a family atmosphere exists and that all students are known by staff.

Our commitment is to provide all our young people with the best educational experience irrespective of starting points. Our focus is to enable them to understand that education is key in our changing world of work, and we teach that our core values of Compassion, Hard Work, Accountability, Respect and Trust (CHART) are essential values for all successful relationships. Our vision is that, “Together we aim for excellence, together we achieve and together we succeed”. We aim to be the school of choice for local families.

We are committed to providing both the best pastoral care and the highest academic rigour for our students and seek to ensure that all of them leave the school with the best possible skills and qualifications. This is our fifth successive year with all our leavers now in education, employment or training. Many of our recent students are now attending prestigious universities such as Warwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Camberwell School of Art.

We are committed to raising standards and enabling all students to make rapid progress. We are confident that, with some excellent new staff, we will see attainment and rates of progress rise. The combination of academic success and excellent pastoral care allows all students to thrive and enables them to become independent young people.

We are determined to follow through our vision of excellence, achievement and success. We will be relentless in ensuring that there are no gaps in our attainment and that no student is left behind. The systems and structures in the school have been reviewed and the way in which we do things has been changed. There is significant support for the school both from the Local Authority and the Southwark Diocese.Archbishop Tension’s will become part of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education Multi Academy Trust and will convert to an academy by September 2018.

The School has continued to provide a high quality education for boys ages 11–19, with girls being admitted in the sixth form. The School’s first home was in Trafalgar Square on the grounds of the National Gallery. The School moved to its present location opposite the Oval cricket ground in 1928. Paintings of Thomas Tenison, Archbishop of Canterbury currently hang in the National Portrait Gallery and to this day the school still retains its historic links with both Canterbury and St. Martins-in-the-Fields.

This place gave me a better grasp on the world and people around me, taught me how to deal with the stuff you gotta face if you want to lead a good life. Also, teachers are A+.

1972- 1974 Had a fantastic time and loved playing for the 1st XI Cricket team. Earning the colourful orange red school sports tie and being presented in full assembly, I will remember forever. Playing at the Oval, twice, was the highlight of my two years at the school. Teachers like Les Stokell, who became a good family friend, and A Robb, took extra care of me and my brother, the only two Indians in the school. They were unique, so was Mr Sumner the headmaster at that time. My achievements to date are partly attributable to my early formative years in UK, at this school.
