Assistant Professor in Bionanoscience

Job Summary

We invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position from outstanding early-career scientists interested in biology at the smallest scales. Successful candidates are expected to develop a cutting edge experimental and/or theoretical/computational research program. In addition, we expect our new colleague to enthusiastically teach and help develop courses in our BSc and MSc programs.

We welcome applications in the entire range from nanophysics and biochemistry to synthetic- and cell biology. Successful candidates are also expected to interact synergistically with existing research groups. Current research activities include eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell biology, virology, biophysics, synthetic biology, synthetic cells and bionanotechnology.

Successful applicants can expect a competitive start-up package for their research program, which they should further expand by attracting external research funding. Specialized staff members are available at TU Delft to support tenure-track assistant professors in building and strengthening their own research programs and to provide administrative support. Requirements

We seek an assistant professor with an outstanding scientific track record, a researcher with a creative and collaborative mentality who appreciates scientific and engineering challenges in quantitative life sciences and who through their research, management skills, and teaching qualities can inspire co-workers and students alike. The ideal candidate has:

• A PhD in a relevant area,
• Relevant post-doctoral research experience,
• A high quality publication record,
• A vision on how to develop a new, independent research line that is complementary to current research in the Department,
• A passion for education and coaching of students and early-stage researchers,
• Proficiency in English, and, for foreign candidates, the willingness to learn the Dutch language to a level sufficient for classroom teaching at the BSc level,
• Motivation and ability to acquire funding, via competitive individual grants, public-private partnerships and/or direct industrial funding,
• Motivation and ability to contribute to organizational tasks of the department.

Conditions of employment

At the start of the Tenure Track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. The Department Chair will agree with you upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively and are on track at the end of the Tenure Track, you will be appointed in a permanent Associate Professor position.
