The Awty International School

The Awty International School is Houston’s premier international school, offering students a rigorous path to graduating with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and French Baccalaureat (FB) Diploma We are the ONLY school in Houston offering both tracks to the IB and FB diplomas Texas requiring all seniors to take the final exams in one of these two programs

This academic rigor is combined with a kind and friendly campus atmosphere, celebrating all cultural, national, and linguistic diversity. Awty was founded in 1956 as a preschool by Mrs. Kathleen “Kay” Awty. In 1978, the school formally merged with the French School of Houston, and soon thereafter purchased the current campus property. In 1984, the school officially became “The Awty International School”. In 1987, Awty adopted the IB program and in 1981, Awty adopted the FB program as its curricula.

We are a diverse community of students and teachers, hailing from some 50 nations as well as from our local Houston environs. Our school spans Pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. In the culminating grades, our students pursue either the French Baccalauréat or the International Baccalaureate. We have the warmth and feel of a small school, but the opportunities, excitement, and diversity of a large school. We support the development of world citizens; intellectual life and academic excellence are very important to us, but character development is equally so. Awty alumni live lives of significance and integrity.

It is often said there is more to learn at Awty. Of course, we have top notch and challenging academics leading to two of the premier high school diplomas recognized throughout the world, but more, our engagement in a complex, multi-ethnic, multi-national world makes this academic challenge only a part of the learning that occurs every day.
