We are very proud of our vibrant and exciting learning environment where we aim to provide the very best learning experiences for our children in partnership with you as parents and carers. At Bankhead we will work together to promote positive behaviour and the highest levels of attainment and achievement within a caring, nurturing and stimulating environment. We organise many activities throughout the school year giving you the opportunity to work with your child and school staff. We look forward to getting to know your child and developing a partnership with you that will help your child achieve their potential.

In Bankhead we will provide a welcoming and friendly environment, which celebrates the diversity of our community. We are a nurturing school where everyone feels safe, happy and valued and all children are supported to reach their full potential. This is achieved through working together with children, their families and the community, based on a shared sense of direction.

  • To recognise and develop every child’s potential across the curriculum and to maximize achievements in all areas, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  • To promote positive behaviour
  • To encourage and develop the expertise of staff and to provide a stimulating learning environment for all school users.
  • To provide a curriculum and ethos that promotes inclusion, health, welfare and equal opportunities for all
  • To use systematic evaluation and assessment to determine next steps in learning and school improvements

We aim to foster respect, good citizenship skills and attitudes within the school based on our vision and values, working in partnership with parents, pupils and the wider community. Our Vision and Values underpin all we do and link closely to the Children’s Rights as outlined by Education Services.

Bankhead School is a one storey building constructed in 1930, and is therefore of traditional design. A new wing was opened in 1960, replacing part of the school damaged during the Second World War. The school has 17 teaching areas and a general purpose room/library. There is also an assembly hall with stage, a gymnasium, an ICT Suite and a dining hall with cooking facilities. Facilities within the school are available to organisations in the community who wish to apply for a let outside of school hours.
