After an intense round of discussion in the university committees in 2012, involving all the various status groups, the original mission statement of the university, coined at its founding in 2007, was subjected to a rework. The new version was then adopted by the Academic Senate, with confirmation from the curatorium.

The bbw University of Applied Sciences is supported by the Business Associations (UVB) in Berlin and Brandenburg and is the university of business for business. This fundamental idea is expressed in the formulation of our mission statement.

The bbw University of Applied Sciences is the biggest private state-approved university in Berlin and Brandenburg, with both its headquarters and its roots in the region. Particularly important for the strategic orientation of the university and the design of our degree courses are the efforts of the university to offer all young people who are willing and able to do a degree the chance of gaining an academic qualification, thus fulfilling the demands of business for academically trained specialist and managerial staff - regionally, nationally and internationally.

In its course program, the bbw University of Applied Sciences brings together scientific teaching, applied research and a close relationship to actual practice. Through its close links with business, an especially strong connection between academic requirements and practical focus is both aimed at and made possible. This relates to both the structure of the degree courses and the design in terms of content and methods used for the courses and teaching, and also to our practice-based research.

The bbw University of Applied Sciences promotes the personal mobility of students, lecturers and the administrative personnel in order to strengthen the quality of the degree programmes through the academic as well as cultural internationalisation of the university education offered.

Our seminars and lectures are held in the city centre of Berlin in our main headquarters in the Berlin-Charlottenburg district, close to the 'Kurfürstendamm' and the zoological gardens, as well as to Ernst-Reuter square and Savigny square.

At the bbw University of Applied Sciences, interested parties are allowed to attend the regular lectures of the Bachelor degree courses, whether or not they have a university entrance qualification. Guest students have the opportunity to further their education at university level in selected subject areas and to gain a certificate of participation. They may also sit an examination and earn Credit Points (CP) which can later be credited towards a degree at the bbw University of Applied Sciences.

As a guest student, you can enrol for a semester for the lectures of our regular study programmes and, if you wish, you can also register to take the exams. You will be permitted to do this providing we have confirmation that there is sufficient capacity free. Participation will be subject to fees.

As the bbw University of Applied Sciences offers two types of study, either full-time or part-time, we can offer a great deal of flexibility to guest students in terms of study times. This means, for example, that people who are in employment can attend the lectures held in the evenings and on Saturdays. Lectures which take place during the day are of course also open to them.

If there are plans for gaining a credit towards a future degree course at another university, please enquire in advance at the examinations office of the admitting university. Pursuant to the Berlin Higher Education Act, section 22, para. 2, line 6, universities are required to credit academic achievements which have already been gained, as far as is possible.
