Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University

Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU), a State University was established by Government of Gujarat vide Gujarat Act. No 23 of 2015 on 16th September, 2015, situated at Junagadh city of the Saurashtra region, Gujarat State, India. The idea of new university conceived by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the seed of inception was laid down by Honorable former Chief Minister of Gujarat- Shrimati Anandiben Patel. Provisionally, the university is made functional in Government Polytechnic Building, Khadiya, which is in close vicinity of 12 kilometers from Junagadh city. The jurisdiction of the University includes Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath and Devbhumi Dwarka districts. The Government of Gujarat has appointed Prof. (Dr.) J.P.Maiyani as the First Vice Chancellor of the University.

There are three Post Graduate departments in the University i.e. English, Sociology and Life Science, and three are going to begin from this June, 2018. They are Chemistry, Commerce, and History. There are 151 affiliated Government, grant-in-aid and self finance colleges and 48 Post-graduate centers in which 65000 students are studying in various faculties viz. Arts, Commerce & Management, Science, Law, Medicine etc at Diploma, Under Graduate & Post Graduate Level.

Our mission is to undertake quality-related research studies, consultancy and training programs, to establish and expand the academic links and collaborative research with globally competent research establishment and Universities and to promote excellence in higher education by inculcating independent critical thinking, socio-scientific temperament for capacity building, empowering the learners achieving their professional and social goals by improving the quality of life in harmony with our heritage, culture and environment and by providing learning opportunities along with inculcation of highest human values.

Our vision is to impart quality education with basic morals of life by inculcating knowledge driven temperament for novel and innovative research which can be transformed into innovative practices for the benefit of the society at large and to offer programs that lead the learners towards ‘academic excellence’ and ‘industrial relevance’ in education and research.

Our immediate objective is the construction of administrative and academic buildings of the University, to commence at least five PG Departments of various disciplines and to develop research culture in the University for the benefit of the society at large along with regular academic and administrative activities.

A university is ought to meet the changing needs of our developing country by building on innovation, problem solving and interdisciplinary research. Our mission is to create and disseminate knowledge through research and creative inquiry, teaching and learning to transfer our intellectual product for enhancement of meaningful and sustainable ways to contribute to national development and to foster global competencies with values of life.

The hallmark of an ideal university is to provide quality education. It should consist of a series of enhancements each raising the individual to a higher level of awareness, understanding and kinship leading to wholesome development of an individual and thereby contribute to the productive development of the state and the nation.

Our prime importance is speedy and transparent administration of the University and to implement it, we shall emphasize the optimum use of ICT, and every activity should be done as per the rules and regulations of the University.
