Welcome to Bishop Douglass East Finchley. It is our pleasure to introduce you to Bishop Douglass, the leading co-educational 11-18 Catholic school in London. We are a comprehensive school located in East Finchley, focused on achieving the very best for our young people whatever their academic starting point. We offer a flourishing, vibrant and enriching environment where learning never stops. This is reflected by our exceptional academic success and our nurturing pastoral care. We achieved 7th in the country for progress at GCSE (DfE 2019). Each child is valued, and we take responsibility for challenging your son or daughter and helping them to fulfil their potential.  Every young person is valued as a unique individual. We have an exceptional transition and induction programme for all prospective students. We expect our students to progress into our exceptional sixth form where an unprecedented number of students achieve places at Russell Group universities.

We are immensely proud to lead our school of high achievement, aspirations and expectations for all. Our success is underpinned by a close and inclusive community. This reflects our school mission ‘to be the best we can be, respecting diversity and supporting one another in our community’. The most recent Ofsted inspection states that “Pupils are given many opportunities to foster the skills required for them to take control of their own learning” and our Diocese reports that “Staff at all levels strive to ensure that students flourish and grow into responsible adults, ready to take their place in the world and confident in expressing Christian values in their daily lives.” We provide much philanthropy, volunteering and charity opportunities based on our Catholic ethos and Christian values.

We offer a broad, balanced, deep and knowledge rich curriculum that is ambitious for all our students. The curriculum is bespoke and personalised, tailored to the needs of your child. We have a comprehensive extracurricular programme that enables growth and development beyond the classroom including trips overseas and educational experiences in the UK. We take great pride in allowing our students to reach their potential in all the subjects that they study. Everything we do is set up to help children flourish in a disciplined yet caring environment. We will nurture your child to grow in all aspects and give them care and attention that will enable them to flourish into a well-rounded young person.

We provide opportunities and support your child to develop their sporting, musical, drama and other interests through a wide range of clubs and societies. We offer subsidised music lessons and creative art clubs. We offer excellent facilities for all our students, including a state-of-the-art science block, sports hall and fitness centre, dance hall, drama studio, music technology and art specialist rooms for student use. We continue to move forward at Bishop Douglass, through adopting and incorporating new practices such as e-learning in every classroom, as well as 24-hour access to the curriculum through our Virtual Learning Environment.

Our goal is that every pupil reflects on their time at Bishop Douglass as a happy and rewarding one providing them with the inspiration to be the best they can be. We look forward to meeting you and your child and welcoming you into our Bishop Douglass family and working together to ensure the very best in state education for your child. We are pleased to invite you to visit our school for a personal tour and to find out why we are number one in Barnet. Please contact us to make an appointment.

I was recommended the school by my child's friend who had an older sibling at the school. My daughter is in year 7 and doing really well. We've found the transition programme really good in helping to make her feel settled, and she says that her teachers are really kind and supportive. There is a fair amount of homework in comparison to primary school, but I think this is to be expected. They have excellent provision to help students complete homework and support them academically - after school 'prep' with a hot meal provided for free, as well as additional interventions. I hope that my son will be joining her at the school next year.

I have two children at the school and I'm really pleased with their progress. Both joined in year 7 and one is now doing their GCSEs and the other A levels. The academic progress that both have made has been great and the teachers and staff are excellent - they will always go out of their way to help. Most importantly my children are happy going to school! Would recommend.

I'm an A level student at Bishop Douglass and I'd say the strengths of our community definitely lie in our oneness and unity as although we are all individuals, there's a potent sense that we're all intertwined; we all care about one another and this is projected through the commitment of teachers which, in my view, exceeds what is expected from a teacher. One thing I can undoubtedly say is that the students are always the priority and this is evident through the sacrifices made to ensure we have extra after school and even Saturday classes! The staff are the backbone of this school and encourage something which I think is immensely important: the fluidity of expression.

My daughter has just received her GCSE results- 7 A*s and 3 As. I am absolutely delighted with the teaching and support she has received at Bishop Douglass. The teachers go out of their way with Saturday and after school classes. The fairly strict atmosphere allows students to learn without disturbance. Thank you to all the staff.

the good thing is that some teachers are really nice and they do like to help, and they school is trying to be better than before as it FELL very bad before Mr.Tissot, students will say that it was better before only because before there were no rules and no action taken and it was AUFUL, it was like a zoo, but now Control has taken over and now students are behaving and reaching excellence. Well Done.
