We are a learning community inspired by the teaching of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church dedicated to providing an Mr Farrelloutstanding education for our pupils. Bishop Walsh is a Catholic school at the heart of the Newhall Valley in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.

The School wishes to help the children to affirm for themselves the choice made for them by their parents at their baptism, to know Jesus Christ and to choose to live as authentic disciples, worshiping God and living their lives in service of a neighbour. Living as a Catholic is something that cannot be confined to school, and we expect, and help, families and students to play an active part in the life of their local parish, and the local Church more broadly.

Pupils at Bishop Walsh are growing to be:

  • Compassionate towards others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; and showing dignity to earn respect.
  • A person of humility grateful for their own gifts; for the gift of other people and for the blessings of each day; and gentle with their gifts, becoming men and women for others.
  • Truthful in what they say of themselves and others in the pursuit of justice.
  • Forgiving of the deeds of others and oneself with the desire to show mercy by finding God in all things.
  • Pure in heart so they can see God; living a life of holiness and total devotion to Jesus Christ.
  • Tolerant in their acceptance of the diverse nature of society whilst seeking peace in order to be children of God.
  • Pupils of service to imitate the ‘Servant King’; advocating the call to sacrifice knowing they will be rewarded in the Kingdom of Heaven.

At Bishop Walsh we believe that Catholic Education is a holistic enterprise, helping pupils to develop not only academically but morally, socially and spiritually. Learning is our core purpose. Learning opens doors and opportunities in life. Our ambition therefore is to provide pupils with the knowledge and skills to help them become successful in their God given vocation. Our ambition is for all our pupils to achieve through their own hard work and the dedication of teachers.

Bishop Walsh does its best to promote all those things which characterise an outstanding Catholic school; academic excellence, spiritual development and social awareness. This vision for the school is rooted in the words and actions of Jesus. His greatest commandment being to ‘Love God and your neighbour’. Loving God is seen in a pupil’s spiritual development. Loving your neighbour as yourself is about our young people’s social awareness and paying attention to academic excellence is all about expanding their life chances. We are working closely with our partner primary schools in the St. John Paul II Multi-Academy to improve the life chances of all pupils in a Catholic Education in Sutton Coldfield and beyond.

The word Catholic means universal and so it is no surprise that we are truly comprehensive and proud of it. At Bishop Walsh we are committed to working for all children, because gaining qualifications or academic excellence is not just an end in itself but a means of giving our children choices in life. The more choices in life, the more fulfilled, happy and contented they can be.

At Bishop Walsh parents can be guaranteed that the staff will work hard for children under their care so that they will leave the school with the knowledge and skills to reflect and act on gospel values, to flourish in our society, concerned for others before themselves. We expect our pupils to have high expectations and personal standards and to take advantage of the many opportunities that come their way. We need your support as parents in sharing the values of our Catholic school and working with us to make the most of the important years ahead for their children.
