Founded in 1886 and rooted in Episcopal values, Breck School is a preschool through twelve, college preparatory, day school with more than 1,100 students. Located in Golden Valley, Minnesota, on 52 acres just minutes from downtown Minneapolis, Breck enjoys a national reputation for excellence and achievement in academics, athletics, and the arts. Upon graduation Breck students matriculate to colleges and universities across the country compatible with students’ interests and talents.
Breck is a preschool-12, private school where all grades are joined together in one vibrant community on our beautiful campus in Golden Valley, Minnesota. When perpetually learning students encounter our perpetually learning school, they see the very process of learning not just as a prerequisite for success, but the lens through which they view the entire world. We believe in:
Our mission is to Prepare each student for a college whose culture is compatible with the individual’s needs, interests and abilities. Help develop each student’s unique talents and potential to excel by nurturing independence and self-worth. Instill in each student a deep sense of social responsibility. Breck believes in a strong system of values under which the school operates. We believe:
When you come to campus you will feel the warmth of our community coupled with the strength of our academic program. Our beautiful 52-acre campus offers students a variety of learning spaces and numerous opportunities to learn and practice a wide range of athletics and visual and performing arts. While on campus, you will be able to see our students engaging with one another, exploring new ideas, and developing relationships with peers across all grades. You will be able to see the connection between our students and teachers, and teachers with each other. You will be able to fully realize how much we value community service through partnerships within our school community and in the greater Twin Cities.
At Breck, we believe our children thrive in our unique balance of academic press — the challenge of learning in an intellectually interesting and demanding environment, and personalization — the trusting relationships that emerge in an environment of care, understanding, and mutual respect. We value inclusivity, inquiry, and reason and ask that our students bring their full selves to the classroom each day; we are a richer community when each individual’s faith, beliefs, and identity are recognized and celebrated. And we believe in the importance of social responsibility, teaching our students the immeasurable value of serving the common good.
At Breck, each week, each month, each term, each year brings new opportunities to reimagine, reinvent, and reanimate learning—both for our students, and for our school. We refresh curricula and rethink our learning spaces. We reflect on our actions. We reimagine community partnerships, reinterpret diversity, reemphasize character and renew spirituality. We reframe college preparation. And redefine whole-child education.
