In Brettenham Primary School We aim to inspire children to become reflective, engaged and excited learners. Our pupils are stimulated to ask questions and have enquiry minds. We aim to develop each child to be independent and to have a growth mindset. Our children recognise that failure and making mistakes is part of the learning process, encouraging them to take risks. Children learn that struggle is often a necessary stage to powerful learning. Each child is equipped with transferrable life skills that promotes a resilient and responsible attitude towards learning.
We are proud to be a Rights Respecting Level 2 community. We are a successful, cohesive and inclusive school that strives to develop each child academically, socially and physically. We commit as a community to create confident, independent, individuals with strong moral values who have a love of learning, are curious and inspired to be the best that they can be.
Our quality curriculum is skills based and caters for our culturally rich community. We produce talented writers, mathematicians, artists and this year our focus is on improving Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG), Geography and to further develop Art. We have also produced highly talented sports players with 3 former pupils aged 17 already representing England at football, netball and athletics.
At Brettenham we have an inclusive curriculum with a holistic approach that is relevant to all learners and reflects the communities we are part of. The creative curriculum is driven by our school values (Harmony through Honesty, Awareness, Responsibility and Respect) so that learners develop a broad and deep understanding of key skills in curriculum subjects as well as becoming spiritually, morally and culturally aware of the national and global society we live in.
At Brettenham we are committed to ensuring the children are well informed of the heritage of our country, both in the modern day and historically – celebrating its successes, as well as acknowledging some of its lower moments, within our broad and balanced curriculum. Due to the diverse nature of the school, we encourage children to celebrate the traditions of their families culture and celebrate how multiculturalism in Britain has enriched our society.
