The British School of Stavanger was founded in 1977 and over the years has developed into a truly international school. The school was initially established to educate the children of the first North Sea oil workers in the area, but it quickly grew moving to its current premises in 1981. The school expanded and began to welcome students from many different countries. In 2004 we changed our name to the British International School of Stavanger to reflect the international strengths of our school community and curriculum.
In 2019 we became three schools - BISS Pre-School, BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum. Gausel and Sentrum are now friskole offering Primary and Secondary Education. The schools maintain links with their British roots, but are continually developing an international ethos for our young global citizens. We particularly value this international aspect. The experiences and friendships which they gain in their multi-national and multi-cultural classrooms are priceless.
BISS Pre-School is for children aged 18 months - 5 years. The Pre-School is situated in the Gausel area of Stavanger and is part of the British International Schools of Stavanger (BISS). Lower Pre-School is for children aged 18 months to 3 years old. Upper Pre-School is for children aged 3 years to 5 years old.
We provide care from 7:30 - 16:30 and are open throughout the year, including the autumn and winter holidays and the whole of June and August. At BISS Pre-School we follow the International Baccaluareate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS). We integrate this with the requirements of the Norwegian Framework Plan (Rammeplan) for nursery schools.
Our vision, as part of the British International Schools of Stavanger, is to be a school which creates the role models of the future in the belief that true role models are those people who possess qualities we would like to have and who affect us in such a way it makes us want to be better people. Our aim is to provide a happy and stimulating environment and a well-balanced programme, allowing every child to develop their potential at their own pace.
Our aim is to create positive and productive international citizens of the world. As such, we work to encourage our students to attain the ten learner profile traits.
