Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The British University in Dubai (BUiD) celebrates its 18th graduation ceremony.
Under the Chancellorship of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and CEO and Chairman of the Emirates Group, The British University in Dubai (BUiD) celebrated the graduation of its eighteenth cohort of graduates at the Cultural and Scientific Association. The ceremony was attended by the University’s Council members, academic and administrative staff, and family and friends of the graduates.
Since its inception in 2003, BUiD has offered postgraduate programmes on the Masters and doctoral levels, the first Bachelor’s programme was offered in 2018. Last year, BUiD has celebrated the first cohort of undergraduates from two programmes, Business Management and Computer Science – Artificial Intelligence. This year BUiD is celebrating the first cohort of undergraduates from the Electromechanical Engineering programme.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, welcomed the graduates, their families, and guests. He said, “This graduation ceremony holds profound significance for our university as we celebrate 20 years of academic achievements. Founded in 2003 through the visionary collaboration of Emirati and British entities, BUiD has grown to establish a lasting impact on the higher education landscape in the UAE. In doing so, the university has played a crucial role in realising the vision set forth by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nhayan, the President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.”
Zina Abohaia, BSc in Computer Science-AI, spoke on behalf of the undergraduates and said, “When we are asked, “What do you want to do?” we often simplify our endeavours, saying, “Work in a lab, run a business, design solutions.” However, behind these statements lies a collective commitment to tackling the unknown, using the scientific method, creative ingenuity, or engineering prowess we learned at BUiD.
In this shared moment of achievement, let us carry forward the spirit of mentorship and the understanding that, like scientists, we thrive on turning the unknown into the known. Congratulations, graduates, and, everyone. May our futures be as diverse and promising as the paths we’ve travelled together.”
Maryam Aldahmani, Master of Education in Management Leadership and Policy, delivered a speech on behalf of the postgraduates, “This moment is not just a culmination of years of hard work; it’s a profound testament to the collective spirit that has carried us through this transformative journey.
I am deeply moved and honoured to speak on behalf of the postgraduates graduating this year. We have faced challenges head-on, celebrated victories together, and forged bonds that time cannot unravel. Each one of you has played an integral role in our shared experiences.”
BUiD contributes to the higher educational system in the UAE by developing cutting-edge research capability in key disciplines, offers the highest internationally competitive level of research-informed education, and plays a leading role in stimulating a knowledge-based economy in the region and beyond.
