Byron Community Primary School is an exceptional school and a leader in the provision of holistic and innovative education. We are dedicated to establishing enduring and strong connections within the school and the local community. Our school strives to maximise every child’s potential, providing a well-balanced and high quality teaching program in close cooperation with parents. We teach the NSW Education Standards Authority curriculum with a fresh, engaging and progressive approach.

“We have been at BCPS for almost two years and still can’t believe our good fortune. Almost without exception my son tells me his day was “fantastic, perfect, great, fun… really, really good!” My 3 children can’t wait to go to school every day. Parents and children alike are all listened to – and the school exudes a sense of cooperation and fun. Kids of all ages play and learn together, so it feels like one big family. Staff are passionate and there is plenty of communication. My children are really enjoying learning. At BCPS we’ve discovered that school can be a place that you want to go to, where you are inspired to learn, where you feel safe, respected, happy, and have a deep sense of belonging. Our school is a parent-run, not-for-profit incorporated association, so our staff and parents work together to comply with the NSW Board of Studies’ educational programs in innovative and creative ways. With excellent academic, musical, physical activity, drama and artistic programs aimed at inspiring children to find their passions, nurture their talents and develop their skills in a safe, supported environment. We strive to develop the “whole child” and to empower them to reach their true potential so that they can be active contributors to society, both in the local community and beyond. Extra-curricular events include the annual School Dramatic Performance and Concert, the Winter Solstice Lantern Night, School Open Day/Fiesta, the whole-school party to welcome new families, Mother’s Day celebrations and the “Becoming A Teenager” camp.

At the heart of our educational program is the appreciation of the need to prepare the children for life in the 21st century. A respect for self, others and the environment informs our educational approach and individual learning styles are acknowledged and respected. The skills of self-organisation, goal setting and conflict resolution are valued and developed as the child moves through the school. A wide variety of strategies, methods and techniques are used to support learning.

Within the classroom teachers aim to develop programs that cater for the specific needs of all students. We employ a learning support teacher and learning support assistant to support them with this. Specialist staff include STEM Teacher, Drama and Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Spanish, Music, Teacher’s Assistants and Library Administrator. We engage the Northern River Conservatorium Arts Centre along with other external providers including dance, gymnastics and music teachers.
