Email Admissions

The Cambridge Trust is a major source of funding to scholars at Cambridge and offers a number of scholarships for postgraduate students.

If you are applying for graduate study, please check and apply by the funding deadline specific to your course. There will be two general course deadlines of 3 December 2020 and 7 January 2021.

You do not need to apply to the Trust directly as an application for funding can be made as part of your application for admission to the University.

If you wish to be considered for a scholarship from the Trust, you must complete the funding section of the online application form via the Applicant Portal expressing your wish to be considered for funding and give details of the scholarships for which you wish to be considered.

The University’s Postgraduate Admissions web pages contain guidance for applicants on the application process. In addition, there are help pages applicants can link to directly once the online application is started.

There are many funding opportunities at Cambridge from a wide variety of sources including the Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, Colleges, Departments, Research Councils and central University funds. Applicants are required to complete the funding section of the postgraduate application form via the Applicant Portal. Applicants may use the Cambridge Funding Search to find out which type of funding they might be eligible for, and how and when to apply.

In the Funding Application section, you should include significant income from all sources, including salaries, business profit, rents and dividends, as many of our scholarships require evidence of financial need.

You should aim to fulfill as early as possible the entry requirements of the University including, if necessary, the completion of an English language test.

Read the information about each scholarship carefully, as some will require you to make an additional application, to the relevant funding partner of the Trust.

Funding for international students with financial need is highly competitive. We expect students with financial need to research and apply for all suitable scholarships, and to make applications to the Trust’s funding partners if required.

You will be informed between late March and July if you have been successful in gaining a scholarship.

The Trust plays no role in the admission of applicants to the University, and is not able to influence the chances of an applicant being offered a place.

The University's International Student Office can provide visa advice on a range of student immigration matters. Please see the information pages for further details, or submit your query via e-mail to the team.

Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for most scholarships are:

About Company

The Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust was established on 1 August 2013 from the merger of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust. These were established as charities by the University of Cambridge in the 1980s in order to provide financial support for international students on degree courses at Cambridge.

The Trust awards approximately 500 scholarships annually, and supports between 1,100 and 1,400 students in residence each year from 85 countries across the world. During its history of over 30 years of offering scholarships at the University of Cambridge, the Trust has awarded a total of more than 20,000 scholarships to students from around the world.

Today, the Trust provides the largest number of scholarships for international students at Cambridge, working with partners worldwide to support students of outstanding academic merit under a variety of scholarship schemes.

Awards, which include both full-cost and part-cost scholarships, are offered to selected students at PhD, Masters and undergraduate level, in all subjects and at all 31 Colleges of the University of Cambridge.

The Trust has 13 members of staff, led by a Director, and is governed by a board of Trustees. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is the Trust's Patron.
