Our CISB Montessori program is centered around the celebrated philosophy of Dr Maria Montessori. Our teachers observe, plan, monitor progress and provide deep differentiation based on each student’s individual needs and stages of development. The children in the classroom respect themselves, others, and the environment.

Language acquisition is nurtured in our Montessori environments. Vocabulary enrichment is developed through the use of songs, objects, stories, and conversations. There are indoor and outdoor activities scheduled throughout the day that promote gross motor, coordination and socialization skills.

At CISB, we take the Montessori further by providing a transition to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which begins in Pre-K3. Our Montessori teachers have trained with our elementary teams to facilitate connections between the Montessori syllabus and key PYP themes. Students will easily adapt to the full PYP program at age 3.

Our Montessori facilities have been purposefully designed with the developmental age of our youngest students in mind. There are specifically designed areas within our campus that are used for movement, preparation, and music along with resources designed to support the development of hand-eye coordination, cognitive ability and personal care development.

From our spacious and custom designed baby gym, to our safe, bright and airy nature based outdoor classroom tailored to Early Years learners, there is no shortage of special features that make CISB’s Nursery a uniquely beneficial place to study.

Our innovative curriculum framework combines the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the New Brunswick (Canadian) provincial curriculum to bring an enriched educational experience to children from Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 5.

The IB PYP at CISB is intended for students aged 3-11 years and focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both inside the classroom and in the world outside. The PYP programme is a trans-disciplinary, inquiry-based programme designed to promote critical and open-minded thinking, innovation, creativity, and global mindedness.

Curriculum in the IB PYP is common throughout the world. It doesn’t replace New Brunswick curriculum outcomes; rather, it provides our students with an international perspective, which relates to their lives in Beijing and the larger global community.

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), intended for students aged 11 to 16 (Grades 6 to 10), provides a framework of academic challenges that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, while becoming critical and reflective thinkers. The objectives of the MYP are to provide students with a balanced education, to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding through a shared academic experience.

Our curriculum consists of eight subject groups integrated through the Global Contexts. Along with studying two languages (English and either Mandarin or French), CISB students will also focus on Science, Mathematics, Individuals & Societies (I&S), Arts (Drama, Visual Art and Music), Design Technology and Physical and Health Education. At CISB, these subjects are taught in English and some English language proficiency is required for students entering Grades 6-12.
