We have an unwaivering committment to ensuring that each child makes the best progress possible, both personally, socially and academically.
We never lose sight of the importance of basic skills in English and Maths, and the “3 Rs” are our top priority. In addition, we strive to provide excellent opportunities for children to shine in many other areas including music, sport, drama, art, languages and ICT. We also have close links with high schools in the state and independent sectors to provide enrichment experiences for gifted and talented children, and to ensure that our children make successful transitions to their chosen high school.
We believe that every child has the right to enjoy a first class education. We want the same for your children as we want for our own children - high standards of achievement, excellent behaviour, a broad curriculum that enables all to shine, and an enjoyable primary school experience that prepares children well for the next stage of their lives. We know that choosing the best school for your child is a huge decision to make. That's why we are always happy to welcome you to Cavendish for a walkaround and to answer any questions you might have about what we offer. The best way to see if Cavendish is right for your child is to phone us, book an appointment and come down. We don't stage formal open mornings - we want you to be able to see us just as we are.

Here at Cavendish, all of our colleagues work tirelessly to ensure that all children learn through a curriculum that is engaging, exciting, challenging and relevant to them and their surroundings. At the core of our curriculum is a dedication to our children accquiring the key skills in reading, writing and maths and providing them a wide set of experiences in which to apply these skills to.
Our curriculum seeks to be creative and allows pupils' talents to shine. We present our learning to the children through a series of questions and look to enrich their learning with trips to relevant sites in our local area and beyond and through having visitors come in to school.
The aim of all who work at and with Cavendish is that we will be an outstanding school because we expect and get the best from our pupils. Our children have the right to enjoy a broad and balanced primary education that equips them with the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to make a successful transition to their chosen high school, and we want them to leave with high levels of motivation always to give of their best. They will have experience of contributing positively to their local community, and will have a growing understanding of the national and global communities to which they also belong. They will not tolerate discrimination, and will have good self care and self discipline skills that enable them to stay safe and behave courteously and sensibly. They will be confident to seek help and advice when necessary. They will be ‘brilliant citizens’.
The Healthy Schools initiative is a partnership between the Local Education Authority and the Public Health Development Service. It supports schools in becoming healthy learning communities through participating in the Healthy Schools' Programme. A member of our staff takes the lead on this area of school life and works with a variety of patners to create a plan to improve the health and well-being of our school community. We have developed policies in school to develop policies around healthy eating in school and learning about healthy lifestyles permeates our curriculum. We also hold an anuual Health Week in the summer term during which we place an extra emphasis on health and well-being.
We are an inclusive school that welcomes and celebrates diversity. All staff believe having high self-esteem is crucial to a child’s emotional well-being and academic progress. We have a caring, understanding team who look after all of our children.
We recognise that you know your child best and you may feel that they need some additional help or support for some or all of their time at school. This information is to inform you about the support we offer at Cavendish Primary School. It will help you to understand who can help and how this support can be accessed. Many children need some extra help at times during their school career. For many children, a little additional support and support from other agencies enables them to overcome their difficulties. However, some will continue to need more help throughout their time at school.
Physical education develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities (OAA). Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives. We will strive to meet the target of 2 hours quality P.E. provision within a school week, and exceed it where possible, although this may need to be averaged out over the course of a term/year.
