Chinese International School was founded in 1983 as a small “East meet West” school grounded with roots in Hong Kong and has now grown to a vibrant community of over 1,500 students aged 4-18. Located in Hong Kong, with a Study Centre for Year 10 students in Hangzhou, CIS’ mission to empower students to discover new paths, build bridges, and flourish on a life’s journey in pursuit of excellence, commitment to service, and stewardship of our future is supported by passionate educators, skilled administrators, dedicated operational staff, and a caring community. An alumni community of more than 5,000 spread across the globe includes leaders in law, finance, academia, science, technology, the arts, and beyond. The CIS relationship is one for a lifetime and our alums return regularly to school to share their wisdom with the latest generation of students.

We are a community of learners at the confluence of East and West, each empowered by a bilingual, inter-cultural programme to discover new paths, build bridges, and flourish on a life’s journey in pursuit of excellence, commitment to service, and stewardship of our future.

Their vision was for a school open to all regardless of nationality, race or creed, where students would achieve fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and an understanding of the dual heritage that makes Hong Kong unique.

Much of our excellence is timeless, aiming to help each of our pupils, and indeed each of us who is associated with CIS, to lead a life that is flourishing, fulfilling and meaningful for self, family, community and planet alike, regardless of the challenges and opportunities we may encounter as the 21st century unfolds.

Yet we also take the greatest possible advantage of our context, by which we mean 1) the extraordinary city of Hong Kong, 2) that unrivalled region of creativity and innovation known as the Greater Bay Area, and 3) thanks to the location of our Year 10 campus, what 13th century Venetian adventurer Marco Polo once described as the most beautiful metropolis under the heavens: Hangzhou.

CIS is an excellent school and I love it! The staff are kind and genuinely care. The students are fun and well read. The campus itself is massive and modern at the same time yet traditional. Definitely a must-go-to. Please consider your child for this school. CIS teaches children to follow their dreams and passions and be creative and kind.

This is an excellent school owned by a friend. Teachers are kind and genuinely care. They are funny and teach a lot. The school campus itself is modern yet traditional, very beautiful and just the right size - not too big, not too small. The students are friendly and social. Everyone is welcoming and kind and the persistent yet kind teachers never fail to amaze me. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a school in hong kong.
