The College of North West London (CNWL) is part of the United Colleges Group, one of the largest providers of post 16 education and training in Greater London. We are a multi-site institution with a strong community presence which offers open and inclusive access to all our students. We are proactive in the economic, social and business life of the communities we serve.

With five sites spread across Westminster, Camden and Brent, United Colleges Group is well placed to help improve the life chances of every person who walks through our doors and joins us.

Our aim is to try and help our students, whether younger or older, achieve their ambition. That ambition may well be to progress to university or move into a well-paid job or start a new career path.

We expect all students to be on time for and attend all lessons. Student who are late for class will be required to complete a late slip. Teachers monitor lateness and absences and discuss these with students. Persistent lateness or absenteeism could result in students getting a formal warning and may lead to a student being withdrawn or excluded from College.

All bursary payments are dependent on students having a minimum of 85% attendance per week. If a student has to attend medical, dental or other non- urgent appointments, these should be arranged outside of class time.

The College takes its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. We ensure that students are told that bullying and all anti-social behaviour is totally unacceptable at induction and throughout the year. The College expects all students to follow our Student Code of Conduct. We will take action, as outlined in our Student Disciplinary Code if a student behaves inappropriately or acts in a way which could harm or endanger another member of the College community.

Students are asked to inform the College of their support needs at application, interview or enrolment or at any time during their course. We have a team of specialist staff who support students; the type of support offered will depend on an individual student’s needs and will be negotiated with the student and in many cases his/her parent/ career. To ensure that support can be put in place in a timely manner, applicants are asked to identify that they have a learning support need on their application form.

The College has been allocated funds to support financially disadvantaged students stay in education. The money can be used to help with additional travel costs, or pay for books, equipment or childcare. Eligibility will depend on personal or family income.

Child benefit is payable to the parent or guardian of a young person who is attending a course of study for at least 12 hours a week for a full academic year, up to their 19th birthday. If a young person is on a continuing course of study they may be able to continue to receive Child Benefit until they reach 20 years of age or they complete their course, whichever is sooner. For further Information please contact the Child Benefit Helpline (0300 200 3100).
