Sacred Heart Greenwich, founded in 1848, is an independent Catholic, college preparatory school for young women from kindergarten through grade 12, with a coed early childhood education program. Sacred Heart, steeped in a solid academic tradition, educates women to have independence of judgment, personal freedom, and strength of character so that they can become leaders with broad intellectual and spiritual horizons. The school welcomes students of all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and religious beliefs. True to its international heritage, the school provides students with experiences of diversity.

Welcome to our 170th academic year at Sacred Heart Greenwich. This year, we return to reconnect our energies to the education of youth as members of a vibrant, mission-centered community. As a school, we advocate for the values of faith, intellectual depth, service, community building, and well-informed decision making. These are the skills that our students need, as they live in an era of rapid change.

Our faculty are called to their work to provide intentionally strong relationships with our students, to give them guidance, and to foster within them a vibrant curiosity about learning. They are committed to their own ongoing growth as professionals, learning from and supporting each other. When they model this type of leadership, our students reap the benefits. Our 2018 - 2019 all school theme centers around Goal II: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to a deep respect for intellectual values. This school year, Sacred Heart Greenwich will focus on our educational program. We will continue to:

  • Develop and implement a curriculum based on the Goals and Criteria, educational research and ongoing evaluation.
  • Provide a rigorous education that incorporates all forms of critical thinking and inspires a life-long love of learning.
  • Develop aesthetic values and the creative use of the imagination.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching and learning strategies that recognize the individual needs of the students.
  • Provide ongoing professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Model and teach ethical and respectful use of technology.

We want to inspire our students to approach the acquisition of knowledge not as an endpoint, but as the beginning of a deeper questioning that sparks the evolution of new ideas and captures new ways to problem solve. Sacred Heart Greenwich provides an empowering learning environment for girls and young women from kindergarten through twelfth grade to prepare them to become confident, intelligent and compassionate global leaders. The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education.

Located on a beautiful 110-acre campus at 1177 King Street, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Sacred Heart is an all-girls’ Catholic, independent college-preparatory day school that offers a rigorous academic program which challenges students to take on a variety of leadership roles on campus and beyond. Sacred Heart offers a global educational experience that encourages girls and young women to develop, practice and showcase their own style of leadership with confidence. The school’s focus on internationality includes an exchange program, which begins in the Middle School with visits to Sacred Heart schools located in the United States and Canada. It expands in sophomore year of high school with educational trips to our schools in Australia, Austria, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Latin America, Spain, and Taiwan.

Schools of the Sacred Heart have a very specific mission expressed in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Education to this mission is one of the most important charges Sacred Heart educators have today. The ultimate aim of Education to Mission is commitment to live out the values of Sacred Heart education and to integrate them into the fabric of personal and school life. Intentional Education empowers the adults to be bearers of this mission and to assume their responsibility to foster its transmission to the next generation.

The Education to Mission Committee of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools offers school leadership the elements of a plan to educate the adults in the school community to this mission. The assumptions and essential elements apply to all schools in the Network. Each school community will adopt models and strategies to shape its program in the context of its history and current institutional needs.

Rooted in the love of Jesus Christ, our Sacred Heart mission evolves through the experience of those who live it in the present and share it with succeeding generations. Relying on the grace of the Spirit, each school becomes a community where the presence of God is experienced and made known.
