Copenhagen International School is one of the founders of the International Baccalaureate, which smoothes transitions for global families. With 900 students from over 80 countries, we offer student-centered and inquiry-based learning to children from the age of 3 to the high school diploma. With an eye on sustainability and creativity, we help our students grow by encouraging active community service. This is how we prepare our students for success and global citizenship beyond school.

CIS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the IB Primary Years Programme, the IB Middle Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme. With more than 4,000 IB schools worldwide, the education that we offer is globally recognized and easily transferable. CIS has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in the U.S. for the past thirty years.

CIS is committed to excellence in the education and the personal growth of every student. Our students learn in a multicultural community where each person is respected regardless of nationality, race, or religion. Students discover the world, its people, and its cultures through direct experience. Through play, study, co-curricular activities and the relationships they form, students at CIS learn to appreciate their own strengths and to respect differences rather than fear them. Combined with academic rigor, this experience extends outside the classroom and equips students for success and global citizenship beyond school. We take very seriously our mission that states that together at CIS we are “learning to build community” both locally and internationally.

CIS is one of the original IB Diploma Programme schools and we have offered the program since its very beginning in the mid-1960s. The IB Diploma is a strong academic program, centered on the traditional core disciplines, which prepares students for entrance into colleges, universities, or other institutions providing tertiary education and training. University and Careers Guidance at CIS is carefully structured grade by grade to lead students through the process of career selection and to help them to make successful applications to future institutions. More than 90% of the graduating CIS seniors enter universities and institutions of higher learning worldwide.

In addition, the school provides courses and learning support services, which address the needs of a student body diverse in educational background and ability. Copenhagen International School (CIS) is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any role offered at CIS will be subject to background checks which include satisfactory references, proof of relevant qualifications, police checks including child protection screening. We want to ensure that your child receives the best care and education possible, and that the transition from their former school to CIS is an enjoyable experience.
