Cornel English School

Taichung Cornel English School was founded in November 07, 1989. We offer an all-English environment for children to learn English. In 1990, Cornel kindergarten was found to be the first school offering Taiwanese children an all-concepts learning environment. Due to the fast growth of our student numbers, Cornel moved from No. 158, Kuo-Kuang Road to No.35, Nan-Men Road in 1997. The campus includes kindergarten and elementary classrooms, office area, computer room and a library. In Summer 2001, we bought another office building and built a multi-functional room where children learn, exercise, dance and perform their talents. At present, there are 3 buildings for all the kindergarten, elementary and middle school students.

Our foreign teachers come from English-speaking countries. Most of them are certified elementary or secondary school teachers in their home countries. We believe that great teachers produce brilliant students, and only professional teachers can help children learn English more efficiently within a short period of time. In 2002, we started our Middle School Program for students who had already graduated from Cornel’s elementary program. Also, we provide an on-line writing correction service for those who would like to practice writing at home. Cornel spares no efforts and we do our best to provide every student with quality English education. We expect our students not only speak English well, but also be elegant, well behaved and talented.

Cornel is a school led by professional educators. Every policy and decision is made for children’s English learning, instead of benefit the owners. Cornel insists on offering the best teachers and teaching materials to help children learn happily and successfully. Cornel has a mission to help Taiwanese children learn English in a most efficient and happy way. When my family came back from America to Taiwan in the 1980’s, my son, Er-Kang was still in kindergarten and spoke English fluently. we hoped that he continued to speak English well, so that he can use the language freely and show the best of himself in his workplace. However, there weren’t any bilingual immersion kindergartens in Taiwan at that time. Although there were some English teaching institutions for children, they did not offer a systematic English learning method. we felt hopeless searching for a perfect school. Later, my American friend, Yve, suggested that we open a school of my own and help children to learn English in my own ideal way. Having great ambition for my children, we founded Cornel English School. The society during that time couldn’t understand why an infant child should learn English. Many parents believed that learning English at an early age would cause a deficiency in Chinese and were afraid that it would turn out to be a waste of time and money.
