What we aim to achieve

At Craigour Park Primary the staff, pupils, parents and guardians are working with the ethos of ‘Succeeding together’. We are aiming to narrow the gap using high quality teaching, informative feedback, effective questioning, autonomy within learning, play based learning in P1 and P2 and strategically planned interventions. While taking our unique setting in to account we are aiming to enrich our pupils with skills for lifelong learning and work. Our focus on the wider health of our pupils and their families has led us to develop our cooking resource room with the aim of educating and enriching our school community with the skills to make positive lifestyle choices.

We aim to deliver a curriculum that is relevant to our children’s lives and promotes personalisation and choice. We aim to embrace our children’s unique attributes and celebrate their individual successes. Children share their voice and views through their ‘This is Me’ folder. They select examples of work that they are proud of, share their individual wider achievements and reflect on their wellbeing using the SHANARRI indicators. With an active parent council, we work in close partnership with our parents, guardians and local community. Parents and guardians are regularly invited to participate in celebratory events, performances, showcases and sharing the learning events. Termly tea parties celebrate ‘class stars’ and the efforts of our young people. Teachers keep parents and guardians informed of their children’s achievements, progress and next steps through online ‘Learning Journals’. Parents and guardians are encouraged and invited to engage with these, celebrate their children and feedback on their child’s individual progress.

We use our modern and open plan school building and grounds to enhance and vary our teaching practice. We utilise the open plan nature of our school to allow children to make decisions and choices in their own learning. We encourage innovation and creativity in learning through play-based approaches, outdoor learning, active learning and collaborative methods. Our Outdoor Learning group are currently working hard to create a bank of resource ideas and a progressive curriculum to utilise our wider environment.

We are aiming to improve digital literacy among our school community and stakeholders by developing a robust and unique digital strategy. We are developing leadership within our pupils with the creation of ‘Digital Champions’ to support and develop the use of technologies within the curriculum. Our active ‘Reading Ambassadors’ promote the enjoyment of literature and aim to inspire a literacy rich environment across the school.
