Croftfoot Primary School is a non denominational school in the Croftfoot area of the City of Glasgow and has served the children, parents & carers of the surrounding area for over 75 years. It is a listed building and stands within a beautiful grassed area with mature trees to the front. We believe that, to enable each child to achieve their full potential, it is important to develop and maintain a positive partnership between home and school. We strive to keep you fully informed of developments and seek your views whenever possible.

Children are consulted and are given a wide range of opportunities to influence the development of the school. We have an active Pupil Council, and all children have the opportunity to particpate in Whole School Committees. Staff, children and families are involved in setting the priorities for the School Improvement Plan and helping us to be the best we can be.

In Croftfoot Primary we aim to provide a happy, stimulating and secure learning environment that encourages positive working attitudes in all our pupils, and fosters respect and tolerance for the beliefs and opinions of others. At Croftfoot Primary School, we strive to ensure that children are provided with a wide range of opportunties to develop their own skills and talents. Knowing your child as an individual is extremely important to us.

Our aim is to produce fluent, confident readers who understand what they are reading and enjoy doing so.
The teaching of reading is based on both sight vocabulary and a structured programme of word attack skills to enable children to decode unfamiliar words. Our pupils are taught to apply their reading skills functionally to aid learning across the curriculum. Throughout the school, children use the All Aboard reading scheme. This is supplemented by Lighthouse Readers at the early stages and by Literacy World at the upper stages. All schemes provide a vast array of materials to support the development of skills.

We follow Glasgow City Council’s “New Horizons in Writing” approach to the teaching of writing and use a variety of materials to support this development, including Scholastic Writing. Importance is laid on the content of children’s writing and pupils are encouraged to write in a variety of styles and for a variety of purposes e.g. writing reports, writing to persuade people, writing instructions, imaginative writing, poetry writing etc. From P1 they are encouraged to ‘have a go’. The teaching of the structure of writing is supported by Nelson Skills, handwriting by the Gourdie scheme and spelling by the Primary Education spelling programme. Additional resources provide further consolidation opportunities. In all classes attention is paid to the presentation of work and children are encouraged to write neatly and correctly.

Our School Values

Be Here! Be You! Belong!

Our Values are underpinned by a “Rights Respecting Approach” and what matters most to us at Croftfoot. These were created in consultation with pupils, parents and staff and are at the heart of all that we do.

  • Compassion: We expect everyone to be treated fairly and with kindness.
  • Community: We want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong.
  • Curiosity: We ask questions, wonder why and look for creative solutions.
  • Commitment: We are committed to always trying our best and never giving up.
