Darnley Primary School is a non-denominational, co-educational school, covering stages P1 to P7. There are equal opportunities for all children in the school, irrespective of sex, race or religion, to fully participate in all aspects of the life of the school. We know that parents often find it difficult to understand what goes on in a primary school nowadays. The world has changed in so many ways and so has the primary school.

We, in Darnley Primary are very conscious of our responsibility to the children in our care, being very aware that we, in co-operation with parents, have the task of laying foundations upon which their future will be built. Our aims are concerned not only with the intellectual growth of each child but also with the social, emotional and moral development.

At Darnley Primary and VI Unit we work as a community to create an ethos where everyone feels they are included, they belong and are cared for. We want to ensure that all our children and their families have the same experiences and we will work in partnership to remove any barriers to that. We want our children to become responsible and successful citizens of 21st Century Scotland with a love of learning and the confidence to change their world.

We aim to teach you the things you need to know, the things you want to know and things that matter to you, your family and your community. We aim to nurture and develop your skills and talents and will encourage you to share these with others. We will celebrate your success, praise your effort and recognise your achievements.

We will work together to provide you with interesting learning experiences which support and challenge you, inspire and excite you and which involve lots of fun, laughter and creativity. We will work in partnership with our families and other agencies to enable everyone to play an active role making our school the best it can be. We will promote lifelong learning for our children, staff and families. We will provide our staff with meaningful opportunities to develop their skills and abilities to support focus on improvement.
