It is a pleasure to welcome you to Deanesfield Primary School and Nursery. We are very proud of our caring school; its wonderful children; dedicated, talented staff and supportive community. Deanesfield is a bright, busy, welcoming school where there is always lots going on. We aim to provide the best possible education for our children and value academic, creative, sporting, social and personal development equally highly. We believe that children learn best when they experience enjoyable, relevant activities and where they are encouraged, supported and appropriately challenged. We aim to enable our children to become enthusiastic, independent, life-long learners by helping them to develop positive attitudes to learning and the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

Our motto and vision take into account the values expressed by children, staff, parents and governors. We aim in all we do to develop children's self-belief so that if they have a dream and they believe they can make it happen then, through hard work and determination, anything is possible. When our children use their own achievements to make a difference to the lives of others, the cycle is complete and the sky's the limit!
Spiritual, moral, social and cultural education (SMSC) is not taught as a discreet subject in itself but rather it pervades all aspects of learning and aims to ensure our children learn to develop attitudes and beliefs that will make them well-rounded, tolerant, respectful, open-minded and informed future citizens. From the definitions of each aspect of SMSC below, it is possible to see how these easily combine with many curriculum subjects so that our aims can be achieved.
We continue to be very proud of all pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage as they continue to try hard, aim high and achieve their best.
Standards across EYFS continue to remain high across all areas of the EYFS curriculum. They have consistently achieved above the national average in Reading, Writing and Mathematics over the last three years.
The measure of progress made across the three prime areas of learning as well as Literacy and Maths provides children with a good level of development. Our GLD (Good Level of Development) has been above the National Average since 2015. These achievements build on the good progress pupils make from their on-entry points.
This is a summary of the achievements of our superb pupils at Deanesfield who continue to make us feel very proud of them. We have a talented team of teachers, support staff and school leaders who are dedicated to ensuring a rounded and creative education for our pupils as well as ensuring their academic success across the school, whatever their starting points. This would not be possible without the fantastic support of so many of our parents and carers.
Pupils at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2 are assessed using a national standard called the Expected Standard, as well as a standard to identify those working at beyond expectations, called Greater Depth. Our attainment summaries below will show the percentages of our pupils who met these standards as well as the national average for each subject.
Our pupils in Key Stage 1 have achieved high standards across the curriculum. They have consistently achieved above the national average in Reading, Writing and Mathematics over the last three years. Indeed, a significant percentage of our pupils achieved the Expected Standard in all of the core areas which is well above the national average. These achievements build on the good progress pupils make in our Foundation Stage from their on-entry starting points.
