DeLaSalle High School, the longest-standing Catholic high school in the city of Minneapolis, will continue to sustain and advance the educational vision defined more than three centuries ago by St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers.

As demonstrated by an ongoing commitment to attract students from various economic levels, academic abilities, and racial and ethnic backgrounds, DeLaSalle extends beyond the facilitation of personal success and preparation for post-secondary education. Recognizing that individual talents are enhanced by positive relationships and experiences, DeLaSalle forms its students for adult lives of learning, faith, and service to their local, national, and global communities both during and after their formal education.

DeLaSalle seeks to create a future in which the youth of today are empowered and inspired to create for themselves and others communities, founded in excellence, compassion, and purpose. We, a diverse community of teachers, learners, alumni, parents and supporters, comprise DeLaSalle High School. Our mission is to serve students and families who seek a high-quality, values-based academic preparation for life. We at DeLaSalle fulfill this mission, in part, by respecting and affirming our heritage as a Catholic high school in the Lasallian tradition.

Since its inception in 1900, DeLaSalle has been located on historic Nicollet Island in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. While the landscape around DeLaSalle has changed dramatically over the decades, the school’s proximity to the urban core of the Twin Cities has given generations of Islanders access to world class cultural, historical, recreational and entertainment opportunities. Students benefit from the countless learning opportunities that exist on the Island and the immediate neighborhood steps outside the school door.

For the 117th year, DeLaSalle continues to be on the forefront of educational growth. The tradition started by our founder Saint John Baptiste de la Salle over three centuries ago endures in our classrooms and hallways. The centerpiece of this growth is our rigorous academic program that inspires our students to critically examine information that students have more convenient access to then ever before. Academics, combined with an experience rooted in the Catholic traditions, provides students the moral compass to be ethical leaders beyond Nicollet Island.

To learn more specifics with regards to college planning check out the office of Guidance & College Planning which provides students with many services that include both academic support as well as college planning sessions. From one on one meetings, to classroom sessions, to parent information nights, the Guidance Department endeavors to provide as much information and guidance as possible to help students with the college application process.

As part of our commitment to help students achieve academic success, the office of DeLaSalle’s Learning Specialist works closely with families whose children have unique learning needs, such as individual service plans or needs due to injury or other emergency situations. The Learning Specialist works in partnership with school administration to ensure appropriate compliance and follow through with special learning plans created for students. The Learning Specialist offices in D105, in the Learning Specialist office area, next to the Islander Commons.

DeLaSalle High School is a Catholic, Lasallian, co-educational high school located in an urban setting, and is committed to providing students with a faith-based and structured curriculum designed to prepare them for post-secondary opportunities and choices.

DeLaSalle and its students have been guided since the school’s opening in 1900 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, known informally as the Christian Brothers. The Brothers, who follow in the footsteps of St. John Baptist de La Salle, live out a Lasallian charism that focuses on educational service of the poor. This mission remains relevant for our time and essential for the Brothers and Lasallians.

The effort required of each one of us is one of conversion of the heart and of the mind. As demonstrated by the unwavering and enthusiastic commitment to attract students from various economic levels, academic abilities, racial communities, and ethnic backgrounds, DeLaSalle extends beyond the facilitation of academic success to the preparation of students to be of service to the local, national, and global community both during and after their formal education.
