Dewstow Primary School opening in September 2012. An amalgamation of West End Infants School and Green Lane Junior School we were initially located on the site of the former infant school. In November 2012 we were lucky enough to move into our brand new 21s Century building on the site of the old junior school.
The building is the first of its kind in the UK with open plan learning Plaza’s from Nursery to Year 6. The Plaza’s allow two year groups to work alongside each other whilst making use of the flexible learning spaces. It is not uncommon to see furniture being moved to accommodate lessons or children researching while relaxing on a bean bag!
Here at Dewstow we are fully equipped with a range of technology. Children can often be found working on the laptop or using the iPads or even in the TV studio! In addition to improve standards, we place a high priority on educating our learners to become confident, thinking, responsible and caring citizens. We want to make a positive difference to our children’s lives by valuing them as individuals as well as teaching them a set of core values that we hope will remain with them throughout their lifetime.
Dewstow Primary School prides itself on being a Values Based Education school. Values are those behavioural traits, attitudes and concepts that create the type of people we are. We believe that all of our children should be given the opportunity to recognise the importance of these values in order to achieve success in life. This, along with SEAL, underpins our PSE programme and has a significant influence over the vision, aims and ethos of the school. Our learners are introduced to twenty two values over a two year rolling programme. This is largely done through our assemblies, but is promoted and demonstrated in as many different areas of the school day as possible.
