Our aims as a school is to create opportunities for each pupil and encourage them to develop academically morally spiritualy and creatively. In order for the children to grow into healthy, self sufficient individuals who are inclusive members of society.
At Ysgol Drefach, we would like to see our pupils develop as:
School Councillors are elected by the pupils. Each year group, from year 2 upwards, elects two pupils to represent them on the school council. The School Council meet at least twice per half term . They discuss issues which affect the learners and discuss ideas which could improve the school. Their ideas are implemented into a Development Plan. Members of the School Council are invited to give a report to the Federated Governing Body of Cross Hands and Drefach schools.
The governing body fully recognises its responsibilities with regard to child protection and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The Chair of Governors undergoes an enhanced CRB check on appointment or re-appointment. The governing body will designate a governor with responsibility for child protection, who will oversee the implementation of the child protection policy and champion safeguarding issues.
The governing body will ensure that the headteacher makes a brief termly report of safeguarding cases, to inform governors of processes such as child protection conferences, multi-agency meetings, disciplinary actions and the impact on the workload of staff at the school. However, it is imperative that confidentiality is not breached and individual children are not identified. Similarly, whilst investigations are ongoing into any potential disciplinary matter, it is imperative that full discussion is not entered into by the governing body, thus allowing sufficient members of the governing body to be available in the event of any subsequent appeal.
