Located in the south-eastern United States, Duke University is one of the world's top institutions of higher education. Younger than most other prestigious U.S. research universities, Duke University consistently ranks among the very best. Its graduate and professional schools - in business, divinity, engineering, the environment, law, medicine, and nursing - are among the leaders in their fields.

Our medical students come from diverse academic backgrounds from top universities all over the world, with degrees ranging from accountancy to life sciences. The diverse skills and wide range of knowledge they bring, enables our students to bring creative problem solving to medical challenges, and helps them to develop as future leaders in clinical care and medical research. While students with strong science backgrounds typically excel in medical school, students who are academically strong from other fields, including engineering, computer science, business or humanities can also be highly successful.

The Medical College Admission Test or MCAT is a standardized test administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for prospective students seeking to study medicine in medical schools in the United States and Canada. At Duke-NUS, faculty staff and students are given access to some of the world’s most sophisticated biomedical research facilities.Spread over some 28,000 square metres, the Duke-NUS facility comprises state-of-the-art research spaces, classrooms, teaching labs and administrative offices.A distinguished faculty of about 3,400 teachers and researchers come together at Duke with more than 6,400 undergraduates and 8,400 graduate and professional students from over 130 countries. The university is well-known for cross-disciplinary education and research, with faculty and students from across the campus collaborating in such groundbreaking initiatives as the Fitzpatrick Centre for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences and the Global Health Institute.

The Duke University School of Medicine is recognised as one of the best medical schools in the United States and the world. Based on factors such as reputation, selectivity, research activity, and faculty resources, (for example, U.S. News & World Report) Duke University has ranked year after year as being among the leaders in American medical education.

Among the draws of the medical programme is its unique curriculum, which gives students patient contact one year earlier than at most other schools and includes an entire year devoted to independent research. After graduating, one out of five medical alumni pursue a career focused on research and teaching - one of the highest rates in the United States and a clear measure of Duke's impact on academic medicine.

The School of Medicine is also one of the largest biomedical research enterprises in the United States. Garnering over $500 million in sponsored research annually, it is ranked among the top 10 American medical schools in National Institutes of Health grant funding. With highly respected research programmes in areas ranging from cancer, heart disease and the basic sciences to clinical trials and health policy research, Duke is home to the nation's largest and oldest academic clinical research organisation, the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

The School of Medicine is located on the Duke University Medical Centre campus, located adjacent to the main campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. In addition to the medical school, the campus includes Duke University Hospital, ranked near the top of the Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, and the Private Diagnostic Clinic, through which Duke faculty physicians provide speciality, subspeciality, and primary care to more than 100,000 patients per year.

The Medical Centre is also the hub of Duke University Health System, an integrated network of hospitals, physician practises, and home care and hospice services located across the state and beyond. In addition to the in-house facilities, both students and faculty staff have access to numerous other specialised research support facilities away from the main campus. These off-campus facilities include the Outram campus, the SingHealth research centres, NUS and even the Biopolis at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), a S$300-million, 185,000-sq metre megaplex devoted to biomedical research. As a school of the National University of Singapore (NUS), Duke-NUS also offers its faculty the opportunity to enjoy collaborations and services available at the main NUS campus at Kent Ridge.

TWO OF THE WORLD'S GREAT UNIVERSITIES COLLABORATING TO OFFER MEDICINE
Healthcare in Singapore is world class. Initially its doctors were trained in the US, US and Australia but increasingly they are "home grown" and creating a great reputation for their profession.
This collaboration speaks for itself with two great universities combining their expertise and resources. Clinical placements are with a range of local and international hospitals and research centres.
